In anticipation of the launch of Collected Light Volume Two: Women Light Artists we are profiling the artists included in this edition starting on International Women's Day 2025. Clara Daguin was born in France and grew up in California’s Silicon Valley. Fittingly, her approach draws from both of these formative contexts: a mix of savoir-faire and technology, embroidery and electronics, the organic and the artificial entwining present circumstances and future realities – digitalisation, dematerialisation and surveillance. Using light as a material, she leans into the esoteric, conjuring up energies and infrastructures, and alluding to the way our anatomies secretly operate beneath our clothes. Daguin created her eponymous label in 2017 after her participation in the the Hyères International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories. In addition to her own designs, she collaborates with artists, researchers and institutions including Google, Baccarat and Nike. In 2023, she was the winner of the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris in the Fashion category and went on to win the Innovation Prize alongside the label Fabriqué à Paris. In 2024, she collaborated with Christian Dior Couture to dress Juliette Armanet and Sofiane Pamart at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. In anticipation of the launch of Collected Light Volume Two: Women Light Artists we are profiling the artists included in this edition starting on International Women's Day 2025. Born in Newcastle, England, Chris Wood lives and works in Cambridgeshire, UK. Stemming from working-class roots, Wood’s iconic career began over 25 years ago. Her signature style, actualised in transformative light-responsive artworks and installations, has garnered global acclaim. This success also led to the establishment of the Chris Wood Light Studio in 2015. In her work, Wood utilises optical materials to harness light and suggest ephemeral glimpsed moments in the natural world. Her meticulous pattern work and sequencing gives order to the accidental and transforms light into spectacular displays of vibrant colour. After graduating with a first-class honours degree in furniture design at Middlesex University (1984), Wood earned a coveted place at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Here she studied glass arts (1988). Throughout her studies Wood developed an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon of light, leading her to explore objects and materials that allowed her to control, alter and facilitate the performance of light as a tangible medium. The most important of these material discoveries was dichroic glass, which the artist describes as “the most eloquent description of the magic of light”. Alongside raising her family, Wood spent ten years examining the creative potential of dichroic and carving out her unique artistic voice. It is this material that has since become synonymous with Wood’s practice. Please like and share with your networks - together so that collectively, for #IWD2025, we can all #AccelerateAction. In anticipation of the launch of Collected Light Volume Two: Women Light Artists we are profiling the artists included in this edition starting on International Women's Day 2025. Chankalun, a female neon artist thriving in the traditionally male-dominated industry, explores the fusion of new technology in her captivating neon designs. Named as an “art-vocate” by National Geographic, her art goes beyond aesthetics; her works transcend traditional neon to address important issues and inspire change. With the quest to master the art of neon, she ventured globally, learning from six different neon light masters and artists, a journey chronicled in ‘The Neon Girl’ project. Beyond private commissions, her art encompasses two distinct collections: ‘Silhouette’, celebrating body positivity; ‘Sustainability’, fostering environmental consciousness; and ‘Blue and White’, reinterpreting traditional Chinese blue and white ceramics with contemporary motifs. In October 2023, she began a diploma in neon making at Lycée Dorian in Paris. This milestone not only enhances her technical expertise but also empowers her to advocate for Hong Kong’s neon policy. Utilising the unique French neon-making technique, she has developed an experimental Chinese calligraphy neon style for her ‘Blue and White’ collection. Through resilience and innovative experimentation, her mission is clear: to keep the neon legacy vibrant and enduring.
