Last week our Community Development Team delivered an age-friendly awareness training session with F.H. MANNING FINANCIAL SERVICES LIMITED in Horncastle! Our immersive training will help you to better understand the daily life experiences of older people, like the challenges of mobility or difficulties with sight or hearing loss. Your organisation will benefit from a full day of interactive, conversational and activity-based training, leading to a greater appreciation of what it means to be “Age-Friendly”. Last week we all took part in a great session by YMCA Lincolnshire on Age Awareness. As well providing us with some very useful information, Grace Tompkins, brought along a variety of visual impairment googles and a body suit to help us understand what it is like to be 40 years older. The impact on your body is tremendous, just getting up off a chair with all the weights and resistance the suits provide really makes you appreciate things better. And trying to just get money out of a purse with the gloves on was a real challenge. Thank you so much for such a great session. If anyone wants to find out more do get in touch with them.

Our JUST Lincolnshire team ran a Young Ambassador workshop with Bourne C of E Primary School, Elsea Park C of E Primary School and Colsterworth C of E Primary School! The session was based round hate crime, understanding our differences and being respectful and kind to others. The Young Ambassadors will now cascade their knowledge within their schools. It's been great to have worked with these schools for over 8 years now on our Youth Ambassador Programme. Last year’s Sleep Easy event raised vital funds to contribute to the redevelopment of Sheridan House. This new accommodation will bring the opportunity to individuals, once at risk of homelessness, to take their next steps to independent living. “Sheridan House is so beautiful! I currently have a studio room in the Hostel and am excited to move into an apartment with its own separate kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living area.” – YMCA Lincolnshire Resident Sleep Easy continues in 2025 with the ambition to consistently support YMCA Lincolnshire’s residents on their journey to independent living through guidance and support. Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for reflection, education and remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. For primary schools, it’s important to approach this subject with sensitivity, providing age-appropriate resources that help young people to understand the significance of the event whilst promoting empathy, respect, and tolerance. Our JUST Learning portal offers these types of resources and lesson plans which allow teachers to conduct discussion led sessions based on sensitive topics, including Holocaust Memorial Day.
