  • ✨Mental healthcare and peer support may improve the experience of diabetes self-management during pregnancy✨ 📌The study had three objectives: 🔵(1) to determine the predictors of glycaemic control during pregnancy; ⚫(2) to understand the experience and diabetes self-management support needs during pregnancy among people with pre-existing diabetes and 🔵(3) to assess how self-management and support experiences help to explain glycaemic control among women with preexisting diabetes in pregnancy. 💡Results found that participants achieved ‘at target’ glucose control 🌱And that participants reported high levels of self-efficacy that increased throughout pregnancy. 🌱 Qualitative data further confirmed that participants who had worked hard to optimise glycaemia during pregnancy were confident in their self-management. 🌱However, the qualitative find- ings also revealed feelings of fear resulting in an isolating and mentally exhausting pregnancy. 🌱These negative feelings were reinforced by a lack of support from the participants’ healthcare team, particularly around self- management of diabetes during labour and delivery.     🥱 I'm so tired of seeing articles like this again and again. 💡 If anything, it's DWP who is defrauding many vulnerable people from support they are entitled to. 💡 Following making a PIP claim, there is a lengthy waiting process. 💡 If a person disagrees with DWP's initial decision, they can first ask for a "mandatory reconsideration", and, if they are still unhappy, they can appeal the decision in a Tribunal. 💡Looking at the statistics for 'mandatory reconsiderations' and appeals between April 2019 and March 2024: 1. 37% of completed 'mandatory reconsiderations' resulted in a change to the initial decision. 2. 48% of appeals that were lodged 'lapsed', meaning DWP changed the initial decision in favour of the claimant prior to a hearing. 3. 81% of DWP decisions that got to the tribunal stage were overturned in favour of the Claimant. 💡 This is without even mentioning those vulnerable people who probably cannot even complete the process, so fall out of the system without recieving any support they are entitled to. 💡 Bearing in mind, Claimants have to wait: 1. an average of 15 weeks to even get an initial decision - a decision that is often wrong. 2. an average of 10 weeks for a 'mandatory reconsideration' decision. 3. an average of 27 weeks for a decision following an appeal. 💡 This means that vulnerable people, in need of support NOW, often have to wait over a year before even getting that support. 💡 It's a shame the general population knows very little about the realities disabled people face. Instead, they constantly hear rhetoric from politicians and the media about 'fraudsters', who, in the Government's own statistics, account for 0% of PIP assessments to the end of the April 2024 financial year.

  • ✨Growing the peer workforce in rural mental health and social and emotional well-being services: A scoping review of the literature✨ 🔵 The study aims are to: 🌱 Determine the extent and nature of the literature that provides guidance for growing the peer workforce in rural mental health services; and 🌱 Identify and explore any guidance relevant to rural peer work services dedicated to First Nations communities, including those promoting social and emotional well-being within this body of literature. 📌Findings show that 💡While there is a lesser volume of rurally focused literature relative to the general peer work literature, 🌱This is a rich body of knowledge, 💡Which includes guidance concerning services dedicated to First Nations communities. 🌱Via synthesis critical considerations were identified for the development, 💡Implementation and sustainability of peer work in rural mental health services across six domains: 🌱‘Working with community members and stakeholders’, 💡‘Organisational culture and governance’, 🌱Working with others and in teams, 💡Professional expertise and experience, 🌱Being part of and working in the community and 💡‘Local mental health services capacity’.   • ✨ Contextualising the Effectiveness of an Employee Assistance Program Intervention on Psychological Health: The Role of Corporate Climate ✨ 💡 A presenting psychological health issue may have its basis in work and organisational factors, so interventions that solely focus on the individual may have limited value. 💡 The Psychosocial Safety Climate (“PSC”) refers to the organisational climate for employee psychological health and safety. 💡 Occupational stress is one of the main reasons for mental ill-health and may result from pressures within the workplace. 💡 Without giving appropriate attention to the causes of distress, potential gains from counselling interventions are likely to be limited, particularly when employees return to a stressful environment. 💡 Individual interventions are effective but require organisation-wide interventions to improve their long-lasting impacts. 💡 Workers’ psychological distress has two components: one that emanates from personal processes and is amenable to individually focused interventions; and another that emanates from the workplace. 💡 Although PSC may improve slightly through the use of EAPs, it often does not change significantly.
