A brilliant day in Liverpool, working with schools as part of the LGfL - SuperCloud schools #UDL pilot! Great to visit St Francis de Sales with Beth and her team, helping them get started by identifying key focus areas in the early years, especially in a school facing high deprivation. Supporting EAL learners presented as a priority so we focused on breaking down barriers by exposing the young learners to rich vocabulary and fostering independence through text-to-speech with the #Read&Write #iPad app. Seeing how it helps with initial sounds and phonetic awareness during writing tasks also proved powerful! And! Our new feature…pictures in prediction, 🔥supporting dual coding. Huge thanks to our product development team Sisse Boll Tali Melchior Andrew Irvine @Aaran McGranaghan for listening to user feedback and continuously striving to improve our products to meet learners’ needs. Highlight…The teacher who used ChatGPT to write a script for a play, only for her five-year-olds to say, "That’s ChatGPT! You used AI!" Even our youngest learners are AI-aware! Next steps…use Read&Write iPad app to access correct pronunciation, switch voices for different characters, and even download the script as an audio file; a powerful example of multiple means of action and expression in practice. It was also great to catch up with @David Shaw at Whitefield Primary School , hearing about their impressive Key Stage 2 Read&Write rollout on Chromebooks and planning their next phase with OrbitNote and Read&Write iPad for KS1. Their digital skill progression model is sector-leading, and their generosity in sharing best practice across Liverpool schools is truly inspiring. Looking forward to another visit to David’s couch! Finally, a brilliant staff training session at Holy Cross Catholic Primary with Diana and the team. Lots of great ideas on embedding multiple means of action and expression, particularly in extended writing tasks. We explored how assistive tech can create more #inclusive environments, including using speech-to-text during silent writing, and the simple but effective tweak of adding “turn and talk" time before silent work to help students using speech-to-text get their ideas down first. Every visit to Liverpool feels like home, but this time, even more so…one teacher was from just six miles from my house in Northern Ireland! I love working with such incredible practitioners, all striving to take inclusive learning to the next level, because learning is for all, and no child should be left behind.
