About us
Created in 1981 by London Marathon co-founders Chris Brasher and John Disley, the London Marathon Foundation is one of the UK’s major charitable funders of initiatives to support people in leading active and healthy lives. We are the parent charity of London Marathon Events (LME), and both organisations share a mission to Inspire Activity. LME inspires activity by organising world-leading mass participation sporting events including the TCS London Marathon, Ford RideLondon and Swim Serpentine. Every year, after costs, the surplus income generated by LME is passed as corporate Gift Aid, which we use to inspire activity by funding projects that encourage and champion participation and diversity in physical activity. Since 1981, we have awarded more than £100 million to more than 1,600 projects, in London, Essex and across the UK. We recognise the value of all kinds of physical activity, from team sports like football and rugby, to individual activities like running and swimming, and other ways of being active like play, dance, walking and gardening. Our current focus is on supporting children, young people and marginalised communities to lead active and healthy lives It’s an incredibly exciting time for us, having recently finalised a new organisational strategy which prioritises inspiring activity for children and young people and increasing participation in physical activity for marginalised groups and communities. Through this new strategy, we aim to support those who may need the most help to be active, so that many more people can lead active and healthy lives - continuing the legacy of the co-founders. We hold four values at the heart of our work: - Impact: Together we make positive change - Innovate: Together we enable new ideas - Everyone: Together we champion inclusivity - Customer first: Together we go the extra mile for all.

Great to see this report from our friends at Access Sport highlighting the truly transformational benefits of community sport. Read on below to find out more...
97% of children experience a sense of belonging when they attend grassroots sport clubs supported by Access Sport. Launched today, Building Stronger Communities sheds light on the critical role grassroots sport clubs play in giving young people a sense of belonging and strengthening communities. Carried out by the University of Bath and commissioned by Access Sport, this study highlights that the transformational impact of community sport has often been undervalued. Going forward, we are calling on the sector to reconsider community sport’s ability to strengthen underserved communities. Head to our website to learn more. Together we can make a significant difference in communities across the country. ➡️ bit.ly/46e0dXb
