Fire, smoke & acoustic containment systems for door assemblies. #fireseals #firedoors #firesafety

About us

Saving lives and preserving property. Lorient designs and manufactures market-leading, high-performance door sealing systems. Our intumescent seals are a vital part of a fire door assembly, helping to defend buildings against the spread of fire. Our smoke seals restrict smoke movement around a building - giving people time to escape, and reducing property damage. Our seals still work hard every day to enhance a building’s performance, our acoustic door seals help to contain sound within a room, or prevent it entering. Many of our door seals also improve the building’s energy efficiency by keeping in heat. We also design our seals so the door can be used with minimal effort, helping those with reduced mobility. Integrated systems We offer a suite of products for fire resistant glazing, and also door hardware protection. Our intumescent grilles and fire dampers protect ductwork and walls, as well as doors. Taking this ‘system’ approach means we can recommend the most efficient, cost-effective combinations for every situation. Our technical strength With over 40 years, there’s not much we don’t know about door sealing. Respected throughout the industry for our technical depth, we share our knowledge openly with our door manufacturer customers, and support their product development in our own research laboratory. Testing and certification Our library of test evidence is second to none. We have a host of CERTIFIRE certificates; and we still remain the only seal manufacturer with BBA accreditation (for our main range of fire and smoke seals). It’s not only our products which excel. We boast both BS EN ISO 9001:2015 and BS EN ISO 14001:2015 accreditation. Lorient is part of ASSA ABLOY. #fireseals #acousticseals #smokeseals #firedoors #savinglives #protectingproperty

Drop seals close the gap between a door and the threshold of the floor - to provide effective sound, smoke and thermal containment. Lorient's drop seals feature an automatic mechanism, which lifts the seal clear of the floor as soon as the door is opened by a few millimetres; resulting in lower door operating forces. Lorient's LAS8002 is a slimline face-fixed drop seal, perfect for retrofitting or upgrading existing timber doors. It’s backed by comprehensive test evidence, is self-levelling on uneven floors, and can seal gaps up to 13mm. ✅ Certifire: CF5179 ✅ Smoke: BS 476-31.1: 1983 & BS EN 1634-3:2004 at ambient temperature ✅ Acoustic: BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010 (up to Rw 31dB) ✅ For use on single swing, single and double leaf doors. ✅ Available in a range of sizes from 335mm - 1235mm. 📦🚚 The LAS8002 is in stock now - for more information or to place an order contact our Customer Services Team: sales@lorientuk.com | 01626 834252 #dropseal #threshold #doors

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responded to a flat fire in Plaistow this week. The fire was located in a three bedroom flat on the 10th floor, in a residential block of 15 floors. The flats interior and balcony were both destroyed by the fire. Balconies on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th floors, directly above the fire, were also heavily damaged by flames. Three men left the flat before the Brigade arrived, and two were treated on scene by the London Ambulance Service. Around 30 people evacuated from the building, with firefighters carrying out a systematic search of the affected floors. Thankfully, there were no reports of any other injuries. Our Control Officers took over 30 calls reporting the fire, with the first received at 0802. Crews were able to bring the fire under control by 0903. The Brigade's fire investigation team believe the fire was started accidentally, caused by the failure of an e-bike lithium battery. Lithium battery fires remain one of the fastest growing fire risks in London, with our crews attending a lithium battery fire every other day in 2023. Well done to our firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Stratford and surrounding fire stations for their hard work to bring the fire under control.

Why is Smoke Sealing So Important? 🚪💨 Did you know that the leading cause of death in fires isn't the fire itself, but the inhalation of toxic smoke? That’s why ensuring fire and smoke doors are properly installed and maintained is absolutely crucial. Smoke is incredibly dangerous - it moves faster than fire, is highly toxic, and can spread rapidly through a building. This makes the role of fire doors vital in protecting property and lives. But how do we ensure these doors will perform when it matters most? The answer lies in rigorous fire testing. A fire door’s effectiveness is proven only through full-scale tests, where it must pass under extreme conditions. However, a single test isn't enough, continuous testing is essential to guarantee that specified doors will perform consistently. All of our sealing solutions are backed by third-party accreditations - providing reassurance that testing is ongoing and that the results weren't just a one-off. Fire doors must be correctly specified, installed, maintained and inspected at least every six months by a competent person to ensure they function properly in the event of a fire. At Lorient, we understand the life-saving importance of smoke sealing and are dedicated to ensuring that fire and smoke doors meet the highest standards of safety. If you need help specifying fire doors for your project, get in touch with a member of our Customer Service Team, or External Sales Team: https://lnkd.in/eGqwPRm4 #FireSafety #BuildingSafety #FireDoors
