Where traditional education lags behind tech change, Lumi is adaptive by design: it can be rapidly applied to a huge range of learning goals as quickly as those goals emerge. In a time of rapid development of consequential technologies, Lumi offers a leapfrog solution that democratises skill development and access to talent/opportunities to meet the shared education goals of academia, industry and the government. I recently had free and frank discussion with Sher Downing Ph.D. about #entrepreneurship and #EdTech. One cannot rationally explain the former but when you combine it with a sector such as #Education where I have dedicated the last 15 years, it is even harder because it is neither glitzy or fast moving nor is it typically a darling sector for investors. . Yet, this is the time. Nelson Mandela said, "“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". The powerful forces from AI to climate change to the rising geo-political tensions point to only one thing- we need to develop a more capable, equitable and skillful next-generation that can help navigate the change successfully and purposefully.

In this insightful episode of the Forward Thinking Podcast, we sit down with Prashant Raizada, the visionary behind Lumi—a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to empowering young people to tackle the world's most pressing global issues. Lumi equips students with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world, disrupted by advancements in AI and other technologies. Prashant shares his journey as an entrepreneur in the education sector, detailing the challenges and setbacks he faced along the way. He emphasizes the importance of shifting educational focus from traditional assessments to skill development, particularly in building both technical and durable skills through project-based learning. Lumi's innovative platform offers quests and challenges that encourage students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills. It also partners with organizations to solve real-world talent, innovation, and impact challenges. Prashant discusses the crucial role of AI education, stressing the importance of teaching young people about both its risks and benefits to prepare them for an uncertain future. This episode is packed with valuable insights on how education systems need to evolve to create more equitable and inclusive learning environments, and how Lumi is leading the charge in making this a reality. Last week we launched Season 2 of The Podcast #InYOUthWeTrust and I wanted to share some reflections on the topics of #Sustainability #AI #Education and #nextgen from the 20+ episodes I recorded in Season 1 with business leaders from IKEA, IBM 3M Honeywell Microsoft Iberdrola Virgin Media O2 PwC Schneider Electric BloombergNEF and many more. 1. #AI: Despite the hype, leaders are balanced about AI but FOMO seems to supersede the risks of rushed adoption. Its a race one needs to run. 2. #Sustainability: Majority of CSOs I met are optimistic about defeating climate change, yet the public feels helpless, indifferent or negative. We need better storytelling, less scaremongering and more actionable guidance. 3. #Sustainability: I don't get the sense CSOs are truly empowered within organisations with budgets and authority to make bold decisions. 4. #Education: Nearly everyone agrees education cannot keep up with the pace of technological change yet we must also recognise it is one of humanity's greatest achievements in the last 100 years. I am keen to hear if you agree or see things differently. Our inaugural season was a big leap of faith but as a team we managed to get some stupendous conversations going. I am hugely thankful to the guess for their time, candid insights and the conversations that followed. Pia Heidenmark Cook Dr. Christiane Mueck Jamie Merisotis Gayle Schueller, PhD Sandy Nessing Laney Brown Gavin Towler Dana Haidan George Corugedo, M.Sc. Amanda Line Sreedhar Sistu Joysy John MBE Michael Lambert Ana Romero Sebastian Peck Darren Coxon Raul Villamarin Rodriguez Luiza Demôro Steven Eliuk Risto Miikkulainen. A big thank you to Matthew Millstein and his team at Old Soul for producing the show and to Teodora Panțu Hanne Wassink Nikhil Raizada and many more for promoting the show. We are all optimistic about our new season! Please stay tuned!

"In the 90s, we pitched converting bio oils to jet fuel, and we were basically thrown out of the room—they said it would cost way more than conventional fuel. But one of my colleagues taught me a valuable lesson: ‘Ignore them, we’ll be right in the end.’ And we kept working on it." In this episode of "In YOUth We Trust" I discuss the challenges of global sustainability and energy transformation with none other than engineering genius and sustainability advocate Gavin Towler. I recently spoke with Alex Sarlin on Edtech Insiders about how the next generation will address global challenges, which mirrored earlier discussions on the show with Sam Altman and Sal Khan on a shared theme: Lifelong Learning. Lifelong learning is an ethos—a concept that has been somewhat vague or perhaps considered a "nice to have" until now. However, AI is set to change that completely, making lifelong learning not only necessary but also much easier.  Let's explore why. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, advocates for a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability. He once said, "The most successful people I know are primarily learning machines. They're not experts in one area; they're experts in learning new things." This philosophy will need to be embraced by everyone in an era of AI-led disruption in the world of work. Just look at the recent news from Swedish Fintech giant Klarna, which announced that it is replacing 50% of its jobs with AI.   Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, is focused on making education accessible to everyone. His platform demonstrates how technology can allow people at all levels to develop subject mastery at their own pace. Lumi.Network builds on both approaches. We want to develop the most crucial tangible and durable skills in young people in the most accessible, equitable and socratic manner. However, we go beyond- we build these skills by giving young people the agency to develop solutions to most critical and complex global issues. I see this as a virtuous loop- shape the world around you and thrive in it, not at the expense of others but with them. As someone wisely said, “it is better to invent the future than to predict it”. Let's do it! ---------- For a comprehensive view of this topic, explore these conversations on Edtech Insiders ⤵ ** Sam Altman on the Future Of Learning: https://shorturl.at/4eRtv ** Sal Khan on AI in education: https://shorturl.at/EL4Yz ** Me and Alex Sarlin on Preparing the Next Generation for the AI Revolution: https://shorturl.at/bzWFl #LifelongLearning #AI #DesignThinking #ProblemSolving #FutureOfWork
