We’re on a mission to transform organisations by celebrating people, one human at a time.

About us

It's our mission to empower the individuality of people, teams and leaders to be their best. We're helping organisations unbox the full potential of their performance. We're banging the drum to lead the revolution in personal development with more interactive, inclusive and accurate self-improvement experiences that help you create long-lasting behavioural transformation. We help organisations and their people to see what their performance looks like, on good days, bad days and everything in between that causes those shifts. You'll see our trait-based assessments and learning experiences across coaching, workshops and all sorts of interventions.  Our Portraits (also known more boringly as 'reports') are being used across the world to measure, highlight and celebrate people's unique strengths and help them explore where and how they could improve themselves at work. Self-change is the aim of the game whether in personal performance, teamwork or leadership. It's fair to say we're a little obsessed with digging out that crucial behavioural gold-dust data. That data is often missing for organisations to perform at their best, and that most tools or strategies struggle to capture. Giving organisations that missing piece of the puzzle that unboxes their full potential is everything we do.  We'd love to show you what's possible when people experience the magic of Lumina Spark. From each person's iconic 'splash' that explores people's high-level behaviours 8 Aspects, right down to their deeper 24 Qualities that make them who they are. From what happens during challenges with the 3 Personas, to how personal differences can clash or complement with the Paradoxes, all the way to highly interactive digital development experiences like the Lumina Splash app. We want to transform how everyone experiences the world of work and transform organisational performance. Follow us for workday tips and entertainment! Let's empower individuality.

Here’s a truth worth remembering: the strengths you admire in others are also in you. It’s often easier to see someone else’s brilliance than your own, especially if you haven’t had the chance to nurture those qualities in yourself yet. That’s where the power of a diverse team comes in: 🤝 Learn from teammates who are similar to you. 🤝 Grow with teammates who are opposite to you. 🤝 Embrace the personal strengths of each person. 🤝 Combine your strengths to achieve more, together. Take time to recognise what makes you and your teammates uniquely brilliant and work alongside them to develop, refine, and elevate those strengths in each other. #WorkBetterTogether

Empathy wins heart, minds and performance. That was my message to the top business leaders from across Japan who I was invited to speak with this week. The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan's Women in Business Committee, in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Committee and the BCCJ - The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan, kindly set up an event for us to explore the behavioural qualities that drive can drive successful leadership. Plot twist: it's unique for everyone! I focused the event on building deeper self-awareness as a necessary and easily overlooked skill for high performing leadership. To go beyond your obvious strengths and smartly act on the full range of talent within your personal style. We broke down the Lumina Learning data that suggests tuning up empathy might that unused rocket fuel for getting everyone’s full views on the table, so we can make better informed decisions to grow strategy, employee engagement and innovation. Most importantly...I opened on why having a precise and practical framework like Lumina Spark brings organisations together for conversations that shift perceptions that undervalue the leadership of so many women out there. Whether it be in personal performance, one to one relationships, teamwork, recruitment or promotion. Creating a common understanding and shared language is what helps us all to build more positive discussions and space for change. Said it before...I'll say it again. I feel so back to my roots across this set of travels. Valuing individual talent is the heart of organisations where people have the space to thrive. It's the best feeling in the world to see that flicker of change ignite for people. That's when we begin to reimagine the possibilities for ourselves and how we connect. To embark on a new personal growth journey with a more meaningful path that people excited about and invested in. Seeing people claim and act on the unlimited potential of who they truly are - a sum of their past experiences in life that can bring out the best in who they are. A Big thank you to all the wonderful Lumina Learning Practitioners I met for dinner too. Thank you so much for everything you do for us in Japan, Elizabeth Handover. You've made me feel right at home...and in true Stewart fashion...once again I’m full of delicious food haha. I'm still increasingly humbled and delighted to meet so many organisations across the world bringing our tools to life with such unique perspectives. You teach me something new about our psychometrics at every opportunity. Absorbing 😁 Lots more wonderful connections made. Lots more wonderful people. Endless beautiful examples of teams and leaders role modelling the sensitive behavioural understanding that empowers everyone's individuality. In a way that today's world demands and deserves. Now at the British Consulate in Vietnam with some cracking events for big clients…arranged by our super star Cat-Thao Nguyen...more shortly 🙂

What happens when you overplay your introversion and how do you find balance?🧐 If you're highly Introverted you'll likely resonate with being all or any of: 🔵 Observing in meetings, taking your time to consider all perspectives before sharing your ideas 🔵 Measured in your approach to work, keeping calm with your emotions in check 🔵 Intimate, preferring to listen first and engage in one-to-ones with teammates When you're effective these qualities make you a thoughtful team player who’s deep reflection supports relationships and decision making. You’re a role model for the powerful aspect of introversion and the qualities that come with it. But sometimes teammates may experience a different side to your usual strengths. When you overplay those Introverted Qualities, you can come across as: ⚠️ Detached and aloof, contemplating ideas too much and not contributing to group discussions ⚠️ Serious and withdrawn, making it seem like you're disinterested when you contain your emotions ⚠️ Passive, losing sight of your own ideas when influenced by what others say Instead of seeing your brilliant side teammates may find it difficult to connect with you and miss your voice in meetings. Knowing that there may be a gap between how you intend to show up and how your teammates perceive you is key to improving communication and becoming a more effective teammate. To act on your full potential. This is a great time to lean into your your self-awareness to understand how you can close this gap: ➡️ what does good like? What behaviours/ words do others see on a good day? ➡️ Where could you be overextending these strengths? What does overplaying those behaviours look like to others? ➡️ What other strengths can balance out your more introverted side to adapt your self when you do overextend your introversion? ➡️ How can your team support you? Seek feedback from a trusted teammate to help you better understand the line between your effective strengths and when you might be overextending them. It's all about knowing that thin line between effective and overextended and learning how to read the needs of your teammates. The same goes for any aspect or quality of behaviour, not just introversion. That self-awareness is a huge skill to have in adjusting your behaviour to show your brilliant side more often✨

CEO Dr Stewart Desson is in Japan speaking on the power of self-awareness for high performing leadership, why tuning up empathy is key to innovation and engagement, and tackling the challenges for women's leadership being undervalued. Keep it coming Stew 🥳

On October 28, the ACCJ Women in Business Committee, in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Committee and the BCCJ - The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan, welcomed Dr Stewart Desson, CEO of Lumina Learning, for an interactive session exploring the qualities that drive leadership success. Dr. Desson highlighted empathy as a powerful catalyst in leadership, explaining how leaders who incorporate empathy—especially when receiving feedback and fostering a sense of belonging—can spark greater innovation and engagement within their organizations. He also discussed the growing trend of women in leadership and shared strategies to navigate the unique challenges they face. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Desson for sharing this inspiring discussion!
