In a recent survey, we asked clients about their experience with Luton Foodbank. Sarah’s budgeting was upset by an emergency expense, so she turned to Luton Foodbank. If a crisis leaves you unable to afford food, we may be able to help. info@lutonfoodbank.org.uk or 01582 725838
About us
Launched in April 2013, the Luton Foodbank charity provides emergency food supplies to local people in crises and in poverty. It consists of local organisations and volunteers striving to ensure that no one in the town goes hungry. The Government’s reduction in welfare benefits and crises loans of 28 billion pounds since 2013, have affected low-income households. Research shows that 1 in 8 of Luton’s children go without one hot meal a day. Many local families must choose between heating homes or feeding themselves, and 1 in 5 mothers cut back on their own meals to feed their children. Poverty and unemployment have increased over the past ten years in Luton. Over 1 in 4 children are living in poverty in Luton (HMRC figures). Biscot, Dallow, Northwell, High Town and Farley are in the top 10% most deprived wards in the country. Local households have lower than average incomes placing Luton 63 out of 326 localities. The Luton Foodbank offers emergency food aid to people with nowhere left to turn. It provides respite by supplying a nutritional non-perishable food parcel with enough food for three days, thus allowing time for people to deal with the cause of their food crisis whilst offering help to resolve problems. Donations from individuals and organisations are a lifeline that ensure the Luton food bank is there for those in need. With your help we can continue to support them. In the year April 2015 to March 2016, Luton Foodbank distributed: 2,702 adult food parcels 1,051 food parcels for an additional adult 6,086 children’s food parcels Objectives - The objects of the Luton Foodbank shall be to carry on any business for the benefit of the community of Luton by: The provision of nutritionally balanced and culturally appropriate food free to people in hardship or distress who are referred to the foodbank by a network of agreed referrers.
