    Working from …. Bed. Iv been laid up for the last few weeks, but fortunately I’m able to work pretty much as normal. It’s made me realise how fortunate I am to have a flexible role and supportive bosses. 3 years ago this injury would have stopped me from working. 8 years ago this injury would have stopped me from working and cut off my income all together. Do not underestimate the weight of flexible working. If it’s not on your top 5 wish list when looking at new jobs, it bloody should be. Life is fast paced. It’s unpredictable. Prepare as best you can - secure a career with the business who pay attention to the fine detail and champion a flexible and inclusive working environment.

    October is the final month of our 4 day week on 100% pay experiment. We are still undecided and I know it’s going to be a massive decision for us. It’s been the ultimate level of trust for me to put in our employees. And I absolutely do trust them. If I offer someone a job that’s me saying I trust you to do your job effectively. I back you. It breaks me that there are companies out there that ask someone to be part of a culture and then immediately don’t trust them. Constantly monitoring them and micromanaging them to an inch of their life. From the experiment I know this… It doesn’t matter to me how you work or where you work, it doesn’t matter if you start after the school run, it doesn’t matter if you have an appointment you need to go to, I don’t care if you need an hour at the gym during the day… All I care about is output and results.. we all have different ways of creating output and results and this should be respected. We make it work. We are a team, all great teams are based on trust aren't they? I know that trust is everything at the moment in the workplace, it can be what sets you apart from the rest... if you trust your employees then I am sure you will have a winning culture. Work should not be like being on the set of Big Brother it should be about getting up in the morning and having the freedom to be at your best. Whatever the outcome of this experiment I have learnt so much about trusting the people that work for me and that’s a great feeling to have. Cheers 🫡

    Why is this candidate applying for a role, which means they have to take a pay cut “That’s a red flag 🚩, I do not want to consider them for the role“ Not only is this salary bias, but it’s also just not thinking of the bigger picture. Here are some reasons someone might be considering a lower salary when looking for a new job: 1. They’re not happy at their current company😔 2. The role aligns with their passions and purpose🎉 3. It’s with a brand they truly believe in and want to work for🤗 4. There is an opportunity for new skill development😯 5. It’s a long-term investment with more opportunities for progression🙃 6. The company culture is a perfect fit🤪 You don’t know someone’s situation, why judge so quickly off someone’s current salary? 😒

    They turned down a £15,000 pay rise and a promotion. Why would someone turn that down? They must be crazy? I will tell you why. Because this happened 1 week after they handed their notice in. I never judge anyone for accepting a counter in the current climate but candidates are starting to judge their employer when this happens. Some see it as an insult or just really disappointing behaviour. Lets not take the piss. Reward your people before they leave, not when the horse has bolted. Cheers 🫡

    Candidates are not commodities. I have been thinking over the weekend, some of the candidate experiences I have been hearing about and reading have been the worst I have known in my recruitment career. Some of it is just jaw dropping. Nothing surprises me anymore. I am not sure I can explain why people feel the need to treat candidates like shit. Especially when there are many out there worried about how they can pay their mortgage, put food on the table and support their family. It’s an employers market currently, many have the pick of the masses due to the current climate with many candidates being out of work. But. Times will change. It always does in recruitment. And when it comes back to being a candidate driven market, this will come back to bite employers in the ass. Many will remember how you treated them, word will go round and I guarantee it will have a huge impact on your employer brand. You will struggle to recruit because of your actions. Some come on guys !!!! It’s a Monday. A good time to start fresh. Let’s put candidate experience at the top of your agenda, we know not everyone can get that job but give them the experience they deserve. Who's with me? Cheers. 🫡
