This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’ve been working with Mercedes-Benz to bring van drivers together through sport. Mercedes-Benz Vans UK and ex-Sky Sports football pundit Chris Kamara have launched Vantasy Football, the UK’s first five-a-side football tournament to bring van drivers together to help improve mental wellbeing.   ⚽ Last week, a spirited team of Alliance Healthcare delivery drivers had the opportunity to participate in a football coaching session led by Chris Kamara. This wasn't just about brushing up on football skills but also creating a supportive space to discuss the challenges of driver mental health openly.   🏆 Aimed at harnessing the power of sport to unite, this initiative provides a unique platform for van drivers across the country to engage in healthy competition, foster team spirit, and share their experiences, thereby improving mental health in a community often on the move and under pressure.   Marie Evans, Managing Director of Alliance Healthcare UK, stated: "Our 1,300 drivers are essential to our operation, delivering vital medications across the UK. As #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek kicks off.. We wanted to represent the mental health of the UK van community by raising awareness of some of the results from our new Under The Bonnet report. Insights show 87% of van drivers have felt lonely in their vans. 65% have lived with anxiety or depression. More than a third even said they have no more than three conversations a day with another human being.     The survey also highlights some of the active steps that van drivers are taking to improve their mental wellbeing – the top 3 being listening to podcasts, talking to someone, and playing team sports.   That's got us thinking… Watch this space as we’re launching an initiative to help improve mental wellbeing.
