Timeless craftsmanship reimagined. The 2025 RETRO CLASSICS® trade fair saw our Mercedes-Benz Classic experts put on a live exhibition of their skills – restoring upholstery, transmissions, and steering systems to the delight of a capacity crowd. A tribute to true automotive artistry, the feat is a testament to the team’s in-depth knowledge of authentic materials and their historically appropriate processing essential for preserving classic vehicles. Our Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre has been passing on this specific knowledge from generation to generation, which is essential for factory restorations and is demonstrated by a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W 198) that is currently being restored. As with any of our restoration projects, our ambition for the 300 SL is to preserve as much of its original essence as possible. That’s why the choice of paintwork in silver-grey metallic (DB180) and the interior in ‘Gabardine blue chequered’ (L1) has been made with great care to match the car’s original interior design when it came out 70 years ago. If you’re interested, we’ve got a younger Mercedes-Benz 300 SL for purchase that is part of the R 107 model series produced from 1971 to 1989. This immaculate 1988 Roadster is a one-owner car in mint condition with only 26,500 kilometres. It features a classic grey-blue (DB199) exterior, black leather interior, and rare options like a trip computer and rear bench seat.

As the first automotive manufacturer to obtain it, we received approval to test special marker lights for automated driving in Germany – the first European country to allow testing of this technology. The exterior lighting, now permitted by special exemption, indicates to other road users if the conditionally automated driving function is activated. This also allows traffic authorities and police to more easily recognise the system status and determine whether the driver is allowed to engage in other activities during conditionally automated driving. The special marker lights are integrated into the headlights and taillights, as well as the indicators in the side mirrors. When DRIVE PILOT is activated, these lights illuminate continuously in turquoise – the colour Mercedes-Benz aims to establish for conditionally automated driving and higher. Turquoise meets two essential criteria: first, turquoise is clearly distinguishable from existing vehicle lighting and traffic signals, such as traffic lights or emergency lighting, significantly reducing the risk of confusion. Second, its visibility allows for reliable and quick recognition by other road users.

The integrated starter generator adds an extra 17 kW of boost power and 205 Nm of torque while powering the 48-volt onboard electrical system. And how does it put all this power down? The carbon footprint of the new all-electric CLA is reduced by 40 percent over the entire value chain compared to its non-electrified predecessor. This is thanks to many factors, including rethinking everything from scratch with sustainability and circularity in mind. Let’s start with a few key recycling figures: ♻️ 4x more secondary material usage in thermoplastics compared to the predecessor, with 50 percent from post-consumer recycled material. ♻️ Secondary materials are included throughout the construction of the seat – from the cover and foam to the substructure and metal structures. ♻️ Wheel arch made entirely from post-consumer recyclates. ♻️ Jacking points made entirely from recycled car bumpers. ♻️ Frunk well contains about 70% recycled material. ♻️ Floor covering contains Econyl yarn made from 100% recyclate. The decarbonisation continues: ✔️ About 40 percent of the aluminium used is produced in electrolysis plants powered by renewable energy, saving a total of approximately 400 kg of CO₂ per vehicle. ✔️ 30% reduction per cell in the carbon footprint of the new-generation battery. ✔️ The all-new CLA’s assembly plant runs solely on 100% green electricity from on-site solar systems and external green electricity supply.

To mark #GlobalRecyclingDay, let‘s take a look at our all-new electric CLA – the first in an innovative new family of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles, with a groundbreaking range of up to 792 km in the WLTP*. It takes us a step closer to our aim of creating a circular economy. And of course, #recycling is one aspect helping us to get there. For instance, compared to its non-electrified predecessor, the all-new CLA has 4 times more recycled content in its thermoplastic components. This is one of many ways the new CLA is helping us to conserve resources and decarbonise not only our own production but also our entire supply chain. Another is the 30% reduction per cell in the carbon footprint of the new battery generation compared to the preceding battery. The Rastatt assembly plant is supplied with 100% green electricity – from onsite solar systems and external green electricity supply. MB. DRIVE ASSIST PRO will offer a seamless, safe point-to-point L2++ driving experience. With just a button press, your car navigates to where you want to be, assisting you from your starting point to your destination. It handles complex urban scenarios while the driver can always intuitively adjust the position of the vehicle without disengaging the system. We call this feature cooperative steering. We will initially offer L2++ starting in China in 2025 with the market introduction of the new CLA with the long wheelbase. The U.S. market is planned to follow in 2026.
