On Wednesday night, I attended Ok Mentor x CLIQ's 'Community is more than just a buzzword' panel event at COLONY. This was the most impactful panel I’ve attended—as everything was relatable, I could directly relate the conversations to building my own community, MCR Marketers, and to client's communities which I work with at Serotonin. As the founder of MCR Marketers that I've run solo for the past year and a half, I’ve experienced both the highs and the lows. Balancing a full-time job, navigating my early 20s, and finding time for personal growth—whether it's been guest speaking or attending gym classes in the dark evenings after work—it hasn’t been easy. To be honest, the past few months have been particularly challenging. Running a community is tough, and I often find myself doubting whether people will actually show up to events—especially the night before. But despite the uncertainties and constant imposter syndrome, I’m incredibly proud of how far MCR Marketers has come. From sell-out events and sponsorships to personal opportunities and lasting friendships, it's incredibly rewarding to see the hard work pay off. Do you want to start a community? The 3 game-changing takeaways from this panel event: - People often think building a community means spending a lot of money, and that you have to pay to go to fancy networking events. But the truth is, there are plenty of great free events to attend! - Focus on investing time and effort into your community, and always listen to your audience. - A strong community should thrive even when you're not around, without needing you to facilitate every conversation. A massive thank you to the panelists Ella Thompson, Nicola Gunby, Yen Bui and Tara Parashar for all your insight into the world of community and sharing all the misconceptions, advice and personal experiences with us all. #communtiy #marketing #networking #marketingevents #cliq #okmentor #mcrmarketers
