Co-Founder of Melanin Speaking Podcast, Host of 'Our Rights Stories' & Sr.Executive Assistant at JustRight Scotland.
*Podcast Update* It's your favorite Chicana host in Scotland! I've got some tough news to share today. Co-founding a podcast focused on empowering people of color and showcasing their brilliance to the world has been a dream come true. Throughout this journey, I've learned so much about the communities around me and.the connections we share as compassionate humans. I also learned a lot about my abilities, boundaries and the value of my voice. This being said for the sake of my mental health and well-being, I've made the difficult decision to step away from the podcast. This comes with a heavy heart because I’ve poured so much of my time, energy, and soul into Melanin Speaking Podcast. But from the start, I’ve always seen this project as something bigger than myself. The episodes we've created are a testament to that. This won't be the last time you see this chingona chatting ❣️ Stay empowered ☀️

🤔 Ever wondered how we came up with the name "Melanin Speaking"? Let me take you back to a pivotal moment during the 2020 election. It was the vice presidential debate, and Kamala Harris, AKA Mamala ❤️ , was on stage facing Mike Pence. As many of us remember, there was a moment when she was interrupted and, with grace and determination, she held up her hand and firmly stated, "I'm speaking." 💭 For us, that was a profound moment. As women of color, we often find ourselves being spoken over, overshadowed, and silenced. Kamala's assertive declaration resonated deeply with us. It was in that powerful, defiant moment that we found our inspiration. 🎙 We named our platform "Melanin Speaking" to honor that spirit of resilience and to create a space where voices like ours are heard loud and clear. We celebrate the possibility of America’s first woman of color in the highest office – a change that is long overdue. 💪🏾 Join us as we continue to amplify voices and champion the representation we all deserve. #WOC #Leadership #RepresentationMatters #KamalaHarris #MelaninSpeakingPodcast

What an incredible opportunity for Melanin Speaking Podcast with Pass The MIC Scotland. The environment was bursting with empowering and the feeling of sisterhood. Thank you Talat Yaqoob FRSE for creating this opportunity for us. It was incredible to host a workshop based on the labels/terms known to describe a certain ethnic/race group and if they feel the term #Melanin is inclusive term. It would be great to continue the conversation. See some terms mentioned in the picture and feel free to add more. We love to hear from you. #PTM2024 #MelaninSpeakingPodcast #Passthemic #Womenempowerment

Our Co-Funder Doing amazing things! We are so proud!
🤔 What's a culture of collective care? Why do we need to talk about compassion fatigue in the third sector? 🔎 Our Senior Executive Assistant, Natalia Uribe, tells us more about her role 'behind the scenes' at JustRight Scotland and how she supports the team in our day-to-day lives. 🛡 She highlights the value of working as an individual but also collectively as an organisation, and delves into the importance of prioritising and nurturing a culture of collective care because "being part of a team that supports each other and respects each other’s values and visions becomes part of my role." ➡ Read Nat's full blog here: https://lnkd.in/etEtFZRy

Our Hosts Ranecia Johnson and Natalia Uribe welcome Nancy this week to explore the influence of latin culture in Scotland! Did you know that latino/a/x is one of the fastest growing ethnic minority groups in the UK? Neither did we! Just another reason that proper data collection of all the ethnic groups under the outdated umbrella term 'BAME' is so important. . . #melaninspeakingpodcast #melaninspeaking #latinamerica #scotland #uk
