Investing in the Growth of Our Associate Staff At Mercia Learning Trust, we recognise the vital role that associate staff play in the success of our schools, making up 48% of our workforce. From liaising with parents and external agencies to advising senior leaders and trustees, they hold responsibilities that are crucial to the smooth running of our schools. Yet, professional development for associate staff often falls behind that of teaching staff. We’re committed to changing that. Following the success of last year’s programme, we are proud to offer another year-long leadership training programme for associate staff in 2024/25. This programme is designed for those who are already in leadership positions or aspire to further develop their careers to reach leadership positions. Led by our Trust Improvement Director, Claire Pender, and supported by other trust leaders, participants will gain invaluable skills in leadership, communication, and strategic planning. Testimonies from our previous cohort highlight the benefits: ✨ “It was great to share experiences with staff across the trust.” ✨ “The training exceeded my expectations—well-planned and highly useful.” ✨ “I’ve built links with others in different schools that have been invaluable.” We’re proud to be building a future where all staff—both teaching and associate—have access to meaningful professional development.

Louise Haigh MP came in to school today to find out more about an exciting project the Year 12 students in design technology have been up to. In the subject design, engineer and construct (DEC), students have been redesigning different stations along the Hope Valley line to make them more accessible and welcoming, and to fit in with the local environment. They have also been considering how the stations could open up business opportunities around the station. They worked in teams of three and created scale models and then moved on to model them in Autodesk REVIT and create a 3D digital model of the site. It was a brilliant opportunity for these students to present their deigns to Louise Haigh, who is not only a Sheffield MP and former student at KES, but also the Secretary of State for Transport. They also presented to representatives from HS1 and Mott MacDonald. Mark Taylor Alison Watson MBE Helen Vardy Paul Haigh Louise Haigh MP

BIG CHALLENGE Wow! We have been inundated with teams interested in getting involved with this year's Big Challenge enterprise project! An amazing 27 teams have come forward to get involved, but sadly we can only take forward ten teams to take part. So, in the past couple of weeks, we've been running Dragon's Den sessions to select those lucky ten teams! The Big Challenge is a Sheffield-wide competition run by See it Be it in Sheffield. Teams of up to 6 pupils have the opportunity to design and grow a business from a £25 start up loan. This follows the success of the previous two years' Big Challenge competitions, having won Best Advert, Made in Sheffield and Best use of Technology awards last year. Well done to the teams who have presented so confidently and prepared so well for the Dragon's Dens. Watch this space to hear which teams made it through!
