Sarah's Journey: From Tourist to Skilled Worker in the UK 🇬🇧💪 Yes, it's possible. Sarah Dillard first came to the UK on a tourist visa and fell in love with Cardiff (pictured below). When she returned to 🇺🇸 she set her sights on a big goal: to come back to the UK with a Skilled Worker Visa in hand. From April, she focused her job search on this goal. Here’s how she made it happen: 1️⃣ Looked Beyond London: → The UK job market doesn’t start and end in London. → By expanding her search to cities like Cardiff, Sarah increased her chances of finding a company willing to sponsor her visa. 2️⃣ Honed in on Her Niche: → Sarah didn’t spread herself thin. She leaned into what made her unique: content marketing within the travel sector. → This targeted approach led her to companies looking for specialised talent and more interview invites. 3️⃣ Focused on Startups & SMEs: → Bigger isn’t always better. → Smaller companies often mean less competition and more opportunity for negotiation. → Targeting these organisations allowed Sarah to stand out and build meaningful connections. 4️⃣ Showed Up Confidently: → With migreats help and resources, Sarah came prepared, understanding exactly how to showcase her skills and experience. → Her confidence and our support made all the difference in her interviews. The result? Sarah achieved her goal and landed her dream sponsored role from outside the UK in just six months. 🚀 To anyone else looking to take a similar path, know that it’s achievable. Comment SUCCESS if you want a link to trial migreats for free! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ At migreats, we’re proud to be part of stories like Sarah’s. Our mission is to empower international talent through a blend of community, resources, job board access, and tailored coaching. Sarah is one of 37 incredible migreats members who’ve secured UK visa sponsored roles through our support. And we couldn’t be more excited to share these journeys to inspire yours 🌍✨

Career services 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡 to help international students—but many don’t know where to start. After my last post went viral (60,000+ impressions), I had conversations with careers teams at: → King's College LondonThe University of EdinburghUniversity of ExeterSOAS University of London, and others. What I learnt surprised me: They 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡 to help international students. They 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 the system isn’t working. But many don’t know where to start. The system is broken: → Career services lack clear guidance on visa sponsorship. → Employers rarely attend career fairs ready to sponsor talent. → Support for international students often feels like an afterthought. But there’s hope. Universities and career services are starting to listen. So, where do we start? 1️⃣ Clearer visa guidance and sponsorship advice built into career services. 2️⃣ Active partnerships with companies that prioritise international hires. 3️⃣ Tailored career workshops to address the specific challenges international students face (migreats 👋 ) Now that we've got the convo started... 💬 How do you wish to be more supported as an international student (or wish you'd been supported)? Comment below! 👇 Let’s keep the conversation going and inspire real change. ✅ At migreats, we’ve built a community of over 250+ members - and helped 35 individuals land VISA-sponsored roles. ✅ We work with 5 career coaches to provide workshops, training CV reviews, and a job board with over 14,000 roles from companies that have licenses. ✅ We want our services to be accessible by all - which is why speaking to universities is very important for us. #InternationalStudents #CareerServices #VisaSponsorship #HigherEducation #migreats #UKUniversities

UK Universities are failing International Students – and I’m angry about it. It’s been SEVEN years since I graduated, and guess what? Virtually nothing has changed. I was an international student at the The University of Edinburgh (2013-2017). During my time there: →  The Graduate Visa didn’t exist, and I had zero clarity on how to get sponsored for a job. → The University of Edinburgh Careers Service gave me no useful feedback or insights. → Their Career Services fair didn’t feature a single company focused on helping international students secure visa-sponsored roles. Many members of migreats join us as recent graduates from top UK universities, and they share the same frustrations I had. 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝. Now, before anyone comments: "𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑙, 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛’𝑡 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡!" Here’s what’s you should know: “Educational consultants” target international students from countries like 🇮🇳 India, 🇭🇰 Hong Kong, and 🇳🇬 Nigeria with misleading promises such as: "𝑇𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑎 £25,000 𝑙𝑜𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 M𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟’𝑠, 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑜𝑛 𝑎 𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑢𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑉𝑖𝑠𝑎, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦𝑜𝑢’𝑙𝑙 𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑦 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎 𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑗𝑜𝑏!" Why? Because UK universities see international students as 💰 And then "career coaches who say they're not career coaches" with accelerators that cost ££££s (despite having EU settlement status so no real experience of the struggle) - tell international talent to "work for free" or "never mention VISA sponsorship" 🙂 Cycle of exploitation continues. These support systems should be part of the university experience. But the system is so, so broken. That’s why at migreats, we’re stepping in to fix it. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 or TAG your University Careers Service in the comments below 👇🏼 Let’s get it in front of those who work in Career Services. Lets finally inspire some change. ------------------------------------------------------ At migreats, we offer a genuine community, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 help, resources, and a job board we have built ourselves with over 14,000+ sponsored roles.
