🚍 An iconic bus makes its comeback! ✨   The beloved Maltese buses, cherished symbols of the 🇲🇹 community, are making a vibrant comeback in a new, eco-friendly form. Retired in 2011 due to environmental and accessibility concerns, these colourful diesel buses are being revived under the Malta Bus Reborn project.   The Maltese bus fleet 🚍, celebrated for its eclectic design, bold colours, and vivid murals, was a defining characteristic of the Mediterranean island. Today, Mizzi Studio, a design studio based in London and Malta, offers a contemporary alternative that blends zero-emissions technology with the visual charm of the originals.   Reviving this national treasure offers a unique chance to connect communities through an environmental heritage initiative. It exemplifies how sustainable practices and community collaboration can transform urban areas into vibrant, inclusive spaces that benefit both people and the environment. 🌱   The project has not only garnered immense public support - with 86% of the community voting in favour of the initiative - but was also a finalist for the 🇪🇺 2024 NEB Prizes. Our Green Multi-Modal Urban Transit System is up for MASP's Urban Planning Concept Award! Follow the link below to support our project in the Public Vote: https://lnkd.in/d9VDgV9Z A green multi-modal infrastructure solution for Malta and Gozo, this project combines two of Mizzi Studio’s comprehensively researched designs for a national overhaul to Malta’s traffic infrastructure. An electric-powered Malta Bus in combination with an elevated Tree Canopy Line, will form the constituent parts of an island-wide regeneration scheme, alleviating roads of over-congestion, whilst serving the nation’s inevitable need for swift and efficient transit.
