The business awards season is in full swing! Thursday evening saw the AIB Business Eye Awards take place at the ICC Belfast, where MKB Law was shortlisted as 'Professional Services Firm of the Year'. After winning this award in 2022, we were honoured to once again be finalists in this category which recognises businesses in the sectors of law, finance and architecture. The celebrations continued the next day with the Belfast Telegraph Property Awards at the Crowne Plaza. Along with being shortlisted for ‘Legal Property Team of the Year’, we were pleased to sponsor the ‘Developer of the Year’ award. Our Associate Director Emma Smyth had the pleasure of presenting this accolade to the winners Alskea Ltd. We are grateful as always to be a part of an awards season that celebrates excellence across Northern Ireland’s business and property landscape! “With the recent release of the 2025 Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 guides, we extend our congratulations to colleagues across the local sector for their well-deserved rankings. While MKB Law is pleased to maintain rankings in both guides, we made a strategic decision not to submit any new applications for the 2025 rankings. “The process of preparing submissions requires a substantial commitment of time and resources, whether handled in-house or with the assistance of external consultants. It has also required input from clients as part of the reference process. On this occasion, rather than focusing on submissions, we decided to redirect that time and energy toward areas such as staff training and development and enhancing client care. “In 2024, we welcomed nine new staff members across various roles, with an additional three team members set to join us before year end. With our growing team, it is essential to ensure that every member is fully trained in our systems and processes. Furthermore, we actively encourage staff to pursue advanced training in specialised areas of law, helping us stay ahead in a competitive market. “By investing in the growth and expertise of our staff, we can provide an even higher standard of service to our clients. This approach ensures that our clients are supported by a well-rounded, knowledgeable and attentive team. We are confident that this decision will benefit our clients and contribute to the continued success and growth of MKB Law as a whole.” Gordon McElroy, Managing Director at MKB Law.

Events Roundup: The Exchange Chambers Commercial Litigation Conference took place in Manchester last Tuesday, providing useful insights into sector developments within England & Wales. Associate Director Christopher Mason, who is dual-qualified, was pleased to attend this event. Following this, the pace shifted with last Thursday's LegalGeek 2024 Conference in London. Known as the largest legal innovation and tech event in Europe, the lively conference brought together attendees from over 60 countries. A keynote speech by Melanie Brown MBE, patron of Women’s Aid and former Spice Girls member, was one of the event's highlights. These events demonstrate MKB's committment to staying up-to-date with important legal updates, while also exploring innovative ways to enhance our practice. #MKBLaw #SolicitorsBelfast #YourStrategicLegalPartner

𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐞𝐢𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐧 MKB Law has one of the strongest client lists of any Belfast law firm, and that doesn’t happen by accident. It’s taken years of hard work by the firm’s team, combined with the reputation within the local business community of lawyers like MKB Managing Director Gordon McElroy and his colleague Maria Conway. But MKB took a major step forward during the summer when it added experienced lawyer Neil Logan to its team to head up the Banking & Finance function. Neil moved across town to join MKB after 17 years rising to partner with another local law firm. “MKB has always been strong on banking and finance, mostly due to Gordon and Maria and their work in the corporate field and in specialist areas like hospitality and real estate,” says Neil. “I suppose I bring a specialist focus on banking and finance." We recently participated in the Business Beats Cancer Belfast table quiz at Haymarket Belfast. Though we got off to a great start, our performance went downhill soon after. In the end, our biggest achievement was coming up with our team name: 𝗠asters of 𝗞ourt and 𝗕ar! A big thank you to everyone at BBCB and the event sponsors/partners for hosting such an enjoyable night. Their efforts helped raise over £12,000 for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) - a fantastic result for a very worthy cause. Accompanying the images, captured by photographer Khara Pringle, is a write-up that offers insight into the photoshoot. “Our new visuals aren’t just about aesthetics; they reflect our ongoing journey in visual storytelling,” said Kym Horner, Marketing Executive at MKB Law. After completing my studies in Rome, I had the privilege of undertaking a one-month placement in August at MKB Law. A massive thank you to Gordon McElroy and the entire MKB Law team for welcoming me and providing such a valuable experience. During my time with the Corporate Department, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks, from assisting with corporate transactions to conducting legal research, as well as meeting some of the firm’s fantastic clients. The hands-on experience and exposure to the impressive work being carried out at MKB Law have been invaluable in enhancing my understanding of the legal profession. I look forward to applying what I've learned and continuing my journey in the legal field. Thank you once again to Gordon and the whole team for making me feel so welcome during my short stay. #LegalExperience #MKBLaw #CorporateLaw #LegalProfession
