We couldn't be more proud to share the story of design engineer Dave Edwards, who has been part of Morgan since 1997, and his fiancé Karen, who last week set off in a Super 3 on their charity fundraising trip 'Back to Berneray'. In 1933, a Morgan Runabout became the first car on the Hebridean island of Berneray. Karen and Dave took the latest three-wheeled Morgan, a Super 3, to the island where the original car arrived, as well as the Lews Castle Museum on Stornoway where the 1923 car resides today. However, the reason for their 1,000 mile trip was far more profound than the charming historical link that sparked the original idea. Earlier this year, Karen was diagnosed with stage 4 secondary breast cancer. "I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, at the age of 35. I received excellent care and I made a full recovery. The thought of cancer returning never goes away completely, but after 16 years I was pretty certain I was going to be OK. So, in February of this year, it was quite a shock to be told I had Stage 4 secondary breast cancer in my lungs." said Karen who, like Dave, is also a Morgan owner. Karen and Dave have raised over £5000 for Cancer Research UK, a cause close to many hearts. Karen also wants to help raise awareness of early detection, "This is where I want to raise awareness of early detection. I have no symptoms of being ill. If I had not been diagnosed in February, I still wouldn’t know I had cancer. And nor would anyone else if they met me. It was detected through my own persistence with my GP about an unrelated illness." Upon their return, they told us "We've had the warmest of welcomes everywhere we have been and have been amazed by everyone's generosity. Thank you to everyone we have met - you've made this a truly memorable experience."
