It’s World Mental Health Day and to recognise this year’s theme of prioritising mental well-being in the workplace, we had a chat with the team here at Mortgage Brain. Together, we’ve come up with some simple ways to take care of your mind during the workday. These tips are designed to help you stay grounded, especially when things get hectic. 1. Take breaks and move Whether you’re in the office or working from home, step away from your workspace for a quick walk or some gentle exercise. Fresh air and a change of scenery do wonders for mental clarity. If feasible, try a walking meeting to make the most of your time outdoors. (Remember your umbrella. It is October after all!) 2. Breathe Between meetings, take a few minutes to practise mindfulness or breathing exercises. Apps like Headspace and Calm offer free resources that help you recharge in as little as two minutes. Weave mindfulness into your daily routine to help make calm and focus a regular priority. 3. Stay hydrated and nourished Keep your energy steady with regular meals and water. For a mood and energy boost, reach for healthy snacks like nuts or fruit instead of processed treats. Although we’re also partial to the odd choccie biccie with our afternoon cuppa. 4. Stretch it out If you’re pressed for time, try stretching at your desk. A few power poses or stretches can help you refocus and alleviate tension. 5. Connect with others Take a moment to check in with colleagues. A quick chat can make a big difference in lifting both your spirits and theirs. 6. Share your worries Don’t bottle up your concerns. Whether it’s a colleague or your manager, talking through your worries can ease anxiety and help you find support. 7. Set boundaries With so many of us working from home, maintaining boundaries between work and personal time is essential. Respect your time and communicate boundaries to others to safeguard your well-being.
