With 2.93 million (41% of all young people) now classed as economically inactive, the highest level since 1992, there is a desperate need to find ways to remove barriers to work for young people. Our latest research has shown how generative AI could be a valuable tool for young people not in education, employment, and training. 💡 Most employers we interviewed are open to gen AI use by young job seekers, likening it to tools like spell checkers. Even though over half of the NEET young people we surveyed said they never used it due to fears, recruiters said they value curiosity, innovativeness, and adaptability—skills that gen AI familiarity can demonstrate. 👉 We need to educate young people on responsible gen AI use and encourage employers to integrate these skills into their youth employment strategies. Key recommendations for employers: ✅ Improve Transparency: Provide clear hiring information and welcome gen AI use to assist young people who are struggling with the basics. ✅ Reconsider Requirements: Focus on skills that can be learned on the job and hiring based on potential. ✅ Create Accessible Applications: Simplify applications and offer reasonable adjustments. ✅ Expedite processes: Leverage gen AI to provide feedback to your applicants who really want and need to hear from you. ✅ Future-Proofing Skills: Identify key gen AI skills for the future and offer learning pathways to support NEET youth development. Alongside our report, we have compiled guidance just for employers. 🤝 Bridging the Gap Our latest research report reveals an interesting paradox: while 85.6% of NEET young people are aware of generative AI, more than half have never used it, especially in the job application process. Many worry that employers might view the use of gen AI negatively. However, our findings show that most employers are supportive of candidates using generative AI, seeing it as a digital aid similar to spell checkers. In fact, employers value qualities like curiosity, innovativeness, and adaptability—traits that can be showcased through familiarity with gen AI tools. There’s a need for employers to bridge this gap and empower young people with the skills they need to thrive in today’s workplace. 📘 Read the full report and discover how you can get involved or get it touch to see how we could help your organisation for free: https://lnkd.in/exNfHt5U #YouthEmployment #FutureOfWork #Innovation #NEET #DigitalSkills
