Earlier this month, we hosted a virtual space for Muslim women to unite in sisterhood and solidarity, sharing our feelings and experiences amidst the increasing violence across the UK. Our Events Executive, Fahmida R., shares her reflections on the event: Led by MWC Ambassador, Rukasana Bhaijee, Muslim women from across the UK expressed their fears, anger, and anxiety about our safety, whether it be when going outside, to work, or simply trying to live our lives. Many shared recent experiences of Islamophobic and racist incidents. There was disappointment with how the majority of media outlets have been covering the riots, often downplaying them as mere protests, and how this contributes to Islamophobic sentiments. We also expressed our frustration with the government for not prioritising the safety of our communities and with employers who have failed to check in on their Muslim and POC employees during this time. Some sisters spoke of the guilt they feel, either for being able to work from home while others can’t or for the increased visibility and vulnerability of more outwardly Muslim individuals. The session concluded with a much-needed guided meditation led by Nutritional Therapist and Herbal Practitioner, Sonia Malik, helping to ground us. This was followed by sharing resources on how to navigate this difficult period, including discussing ways to talk to employers about safety concerns and the benefits of joining a union. Additionally, spiritual reminders from the Qur'an, such as the importance of reading evening adkhar and using apps for dhikr and duas, were discussed. In these challenging times, our community remains strong, supporting one another and finding comfort in our faith. If you'd like us to host more of these virtual spaces, don't hesitate to get in touch and let us know what topics you'd like us to address!

We're still reeling from last Friday's coffee social at the mesmerising Skylight Lounge in Bradford ☕ 🌸. Our first social event for our northern chapter couldn't have gone any better. We had so many inspiring and diverse sisters coming together to make new friends, learn new skills, and simply enjoy a safe space among like-minded women ✨. What other socials would you guys like to see from us?

We are absolutely delighted to welcome our new cohort of mentees and mentors! We are blown away by the talent in our community and are so excited to see our new cohort blossom. A huge shout out to all of our mentors who give back through their skills and knowledge. The MWC mentoring programme give 50 mentees across the UK the opportunity to gain a mentor, a qualification and a range of masterclasses over 6 months. We had our first in person masterclass a few weeks ago on confidence and reframing failure. A huge shout out to Sonia Yekinni for leading this powerful, interactive session and for helping us build our inner confidence through reflective activities. We would like to thank Islamic Relief UK for funding our mentoring programme this year, it makes a huge difference and we're excited to reach even more people next cohort!
