For today’s Talk Money Week #DoOneThing theme, we’re sharing details on Child Trust Funds and planning for the future thanks to our partners Foresters Financial. If you have a child who was born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, listen up! Don't worry if Child Trust Funds are new to you - we asked MyBnk trainer Tommy to explain everything you need to know including what the funds are, who is eligible, how to access the funds and suggestions for how to manage the fund going forward. If you’re a parent/guardian, the one thing you can do for your children this week is to look into their Child Trust Fund. You might be surprised by what is waiting for them. 🙌 #TalkMoney #ChildTrustFund #FinancialEducation
About us
MyBnk is a financial education charity dedicated to creating a financially fluent population. We believe that financial literacy should be considered a right for all because the language of money is a language for life. Everyone needs to be able to manage their money. Yet almost two-thirds of young adults do not recall receiving any financial education at all, and 53 per cent are worried that they will never be financially secure. Poor financial literacy is central to many problems people face today, including rising mental health issues, homelessness and unemployment. MyBnk aims to bridge this gap, working with over 40,000 young people and adults across the UK every year, delivering expert-led, high-impact financial education programmes on topics such as saving, debt and student finance. We want to bring the language of finance to life so that everyone can navigate their money with confidence, no matter where they started.

We were delighted to attend Scottish Parliament last week for the Cross Party Group on Children and Young People meeting on education reform. The inspiring discussions focused on building a more inclusive and empowering education system for all young people in Scotland. It was great to hear from those behind the National Discussion on Education and Independent Review of Qualifications and Assessment, and to gain insights from the Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland, The National Autistic Society, and others. Thank you to Children in Scotland and YouthLink Scotland for organising. #Education #Scotland #ScottishParliament #EducationReform

In case you missed it, earlier this year we published our latest report on the financial challenges faced by care-experienced young people across the UK. To mark the launch of the research, we hosted a webinar with MyBnk’s Director of Fundraising and Deputy CEO, Claire Q., who chatted with Sally Dickinson and Dave Linton to discuss the findings. You can watch the webinar in full here: https://lnkd.in/gDXm2m_3 We’d like to thank the Berkeley Foundation and Trust for London for making this research possible. This #CareLeaversWeek week we’re spotlighting the harsh realities and financial challenges faced by many care-experienced young people as they transition to independent living. We asked Michael, who attended our Money House youth homelessness prevention programme, to share his experience of care and explain how the MyBnk programme has provided him with vital money management skills. We believe that financial literacy should be considered a right for all because the language of money is a language for life. That’s why we’re committed to helping care leavers like Michael manage their money with confidence. Care-experienced young people are resilient and strong – but they deserve better support. Thanks to our new partnership with Saffron Building Society, we’re delighted to permanently expand our services into Essex! 🤝 Last week we invited Saffron CEO Colin Field and colleagues to attend our Money Works session in Colchester YMCA, led by programme trainer Victoria Cutbush. Saffron’s generous support of £200k will fund 300 hours of financial education delivery in the region – and we’re pleased to announce that we have already contributed a third of these hours to empower young people in Essex with vital money management skills. Speaking on the partnership, CEO of MyBnK Leon Ward said: “At MyBnk, we believe that the language of money is a language for life. Our partnership with Saffron will help us empower even more young people in Essex with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed financial decisions, contributing to our mission of creating a financially fluent population. We are extremely grateful to Saffron and their commitment to supporting their local community, and allowing us to make this work possible.” Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ezd5ra5c #FinancialEducation #FinancialFluency #MoneyMangement #Essex #YMCA #MyBnk #MoneyWorks
