Martin Lewis hit the mark at this week's All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) event marking the 10th anniversary since financial education was added to the English curriculum. Martin advocated for financial education to be part of the core curriculum - exactly in line with our mission at MyBnk. It was great to hear him emphasise that financial education deserves its own focus and attention in the curriculum and not be bundled with other subjects such as maths or business/enterprise studies. It's about dedicated attention to creating savvy, informed consumers who understand the language of money.   He also stressed that financial education in schools should be free from bank branding, ensuring unbiased learning for young people. Jerome Mayhew MP, APPG Chair, outlined some other key focuses: - Measuring financial literacy through PISA to encourage government action. - Recognising financial education in Ofsted inspections. - Increasing its presence in the curriculum, along with more training for teachers. Our calls to the Government echo this, pushing for: - The Government to guarantee a minimum of 30 hours of comprehensive financial education annually for every 11-18-year-old, integrated across education pathways. - National, regional, and local governments to collaborate in supporting robust financial education initiatives for young adults aged 18-35. - The Government to prioritise financial inclusion within cross-departmental strategies to address inequality.
