As a leader, you should be tracking exactly how you’re using your time. Why? To ensure you’re dedicating more time to strategic, futureproofing activities (leading) rather than tactical, firefighting ones (managing). This week’s podcast episode will show you exactly how. Episode 4 of Stop Managing, Start Leading is available now on YouTube and all major podcast platforms! YT: https://lnkd.in/eExPr7a3 Apple: https://lnkd.in/eV3H5Jqr Spotify: https://lnkd.in/ebWPya98

Why is it that the Board almost never writes a memo to the incumbent CEO advising them on what kind of leader they expect them to be? Well that just didn't sit right with us so we've created a fictitious example. What non-negotiables would you include in your own letter to the CEO?

A little history lesson for you today. Napoleon Bonaparte rose to power during the French Revolution and led countless successful military campaigns, winning most of his battles. This enabled France to build an empire that spanned over continental Europe. Bonaparte's influence and power created a tricky strategic issue (an issue you too likely share): "Yes"-men. He noticed that his generals tended to agree with everything he said. Why? He was the big boss. Sound familiar? Napoleon devised a genius solution to this issue: 'The Idiot General'.

Not squeezed in any development time this week, leaders? Episode 3 of the Stop Managing, Start Leading podcast is the perfect way to get back on track. And this week, we're tackling a critical question: What does it look like when management skills outweigh leadership - or vice versa? YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dGz9XfrP Spotify: https://lnkd.in/dp9dYWeG Apple: https://lnkd.in/d9b4sdkv Need a little more? Here’s a preview: What does high management skill and low leadership skill look like? Micromanaging: Controlling tasks without inspiring growth. What does high leadership skill and low management skill look like? Visionary: Inspiring change without the structure to support it. Can one skill alone drive real business transformation? No. For growth that sticks, you need a powerful balance of both leadership and management. 📅 New episodes available weekly, Thursdays at 9am ET (2pm GMT).

We suppose it might be possible for a golden nugget of a leadership breakthrough to be hidden in a cookbook about filo pastry ...but to be on the safe side, we have some recommendations that may improve your chances. Be intentional with your reading - your material should closely align with your personal development plan. You have been warned.

Episode 2 of the Stop Managing, Start Leading podcast has arrived just in time to wrap up your week on a high note. In just 36:24, you could learn something new to level up your leadership and finally STOP managing and START leading. YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dXU-4g2E Spotify: https://lnkd.in/dB3-AP5w Apple: https://lnkd.in/dUaH_Skh What’s episode 2 about? We're glad you asked. A question we hear often at My Daily Leadership is, “what’s the difference between being a LEADER and being a manager?” The answer is a lot more complex than one is higher up the hierarchy, or one gets the parking space closest to the office. We can’t begin to stop managing and start leading without understanding what both roles entail, so let’s start right there. In episode 2, our host, executive coach and leadership expert Antonio Garrido, unpacks the key differences between leadership and management. 📅 New episodes available weekly, Thursdays at 9am ET (2pm GMT).

Today: a cautionary tale. Where in your organization are you missing a nail? When issues are ignored or postponed ...and postponed ...and then postponed again, they tend to snowball, growing in complexity and impact. A small investment of time and attention today can save you from significant challenges tomorrow. #leadership

It's tricky to see ourselves from a truly objective viewpoint. We all tend to be pretty good at identifying other people's poor leadership skills, BUT not so great at identifying our own. Over 50% of leaders consider themselves exemplary: regardless of their team's poor performance. Tsk tsk. Identifying the gaps in your own leadership is foundational for building self-awareness. Stick with us on this one... Leadership is a little like dog walking. Sometimes you have to keep your people close by. Other times, you let them off the leash to explore, find new things, and sniff fire hydrants (well, maybe not that last part). Often, there are treats involved. The best leadership can look like those times when your dog is soaring ahead, roaming freely, and you're walking slightly behind just letting them know that you're there for them. #Leadership
