Well it was not Gladstone's 4hrs 45 mins but it was quite a lengthy speech today. Lots made of what had been "inherited" and what was required to resolve the position. £40bn to be raised from Taxes with some rate changes being given immediate effect. Main changes: - 1.2% increase in Employer's NI from April 2025 and a reduction in the secondary threshold for paying in. - Increases in CGT rates from 10% & 18% to 18% & 24% for disposals on or after 30 October 2024. - Changes in Business Asset Disposal relief rates to 14% from April 2025, rising to 18% in April 2026. - Carried Interest rate increases from April 2025 to 32%. - Various IHT relief reforms on APR/BPR from 2026 which will increase the effective rate of tax to 20%. -Inherited pensions to be brought into IHT from 2027. Whilst there are measures designed at protecting smaller businesses and estates and the rate increases could have been greater, there is a lot for clients and advisers alike to unpick. Previous planning steps will have to be revisited and new strategies implemented.
