Cybercriminals carry out malicious activity, stealing sensitive data to prevent access to essential information and online systems for financial gain. This has a direct impact on safety. Working together to defend against cyber threats is our biggest weapon against criminals. 🌐 This #CyberSecurityAwarenessMonth, listen to Veno S., Technical Support Manager at Cisco, who sat down with us to discuss how she uses cyber-security in her day-to-day. We've commissioned a whole host of videos to highlight computing careers: https://lnkd.in/e2uRS83P #Networks #Data Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency

I’ve had a fantastic day today at STEM Learning UK delivering a WISE #MySkillsMyLife session as part of the National Centre for Computing Education programme of work. We had 8 inspirational role models attend - Zoe Walker, Sophie Hussey, Rachael Gordon, Rebecca Jones, Ruth Laird, Lorna Mitchell, Fatima Hanif & Melissa Gurney - who spoke with the girls about their own career journeys and roles. And what did the girls learn? 💭 ✨ “There are way more jobs in computer science than I thought!” ✨ “Never doubt what you want to do in life & follow your dreams!” ✨ “Go out of your comfort zone and break out of the stereotypes!” ✨ “You’re more capable than you think!” By the end of the session, 100% of girls agreed that they enjoyed the session, learnt more about computing roles and 90% would consider a career in the industry. 👏🏻 This is the difference role models make to young people and why it’s so important to get out there and make yourselves visible! 👩🏽💻👩🏼🚀👩🏼🔬 Huge thank you Jasmin Panayi for organising such a brilliant day of activities for the girls, and to Katherine Ellis for inviting us to be a part of this programme. 👏🏻 #genderequity #inclusion #girlsintech

What a great session. Our first skills breakfast and anecdotal feedback was that it was very useful. The energy was great, the questions and engagement was great. I really enjoyed it! Thank you to all attendees for taking the time to come along and participate. Huge thanks to David Fallows (Birmingham City Council), Spencer Organ (King Edward VI Sheldon Health Academy), Yogita Patel (Westminster Primary school) and Craig Weston (Kainos ) for being our panelists. And also to the fabulous Pam Jones for running the workshop and colleagues Carol Harris and Chris Taylor from the West Midlands National Centre for Computing Education Computing Hub. Thanks again to Kainos for hosting us in such a great venue. And well done to my colleague Brendan Belk for chairing the event.
