Save the date! 📅 4-8 November is #NumberConfidenceWeek 📈 This year we’re talking about the link between #gender and number confidence. Women have consistently lower confidence with numbers than men, and this has knock on consequences for society and for individuals' well-being. It’s simple: life is harder without number confidence. Tasks like managing bills or navigating work challenges become overwhelming, often leading to anxiety, debt, and missed career opportunities. Women's careers are particularly held back by low confidence with numbers. Number Confidence Week 2024 aims to change this by empowering people to build their number confidence and unlock new career opportunities. ✨ Gendered attitudes around maths hold everyone back, including men who feel pressured not to seek help. Join us in breaking down these barriers this Number Confidence Week. Find out more and sign up for your Toolkit: https://bit.ly/4eBZamN

Empowering the nation to get confident with numbers.
About us
The UK has a problem with numbers, and it is holding us back. As a nation, numeracy levels are significantly below the average for developed countries; and as individuals, nearly half the working-age population has the expected numeracy level of a primary school child. Not getting on with numbers blights lives and livelihoods, contributing to pervasive problems from unemployment to poor health and debt. And it costs the UK economy a staggering £20 billion a year. Low numeracy disproportionately affects disadvantaged communities and holds millions of people back from fulfilling their potential and from getting on in life. With anxiety about numbers passing on from one generation to the next, we need to stop this cycle now. Our work is an engine of social mobility, helping to improve numeracy and change perceptions, leading to better outcomes for individuals. It is scalable, supported by a sustainable funding base and delivered in partnership to leverage our impact. It strengthens and reinforces our role and reputation as the UK’s ‘go-to’ numeracy experts and helps increase how numeracy is understood, valued and developed. How do we work? We provide support, tools and training for improving number confidence and skills. Whether you want to help your team, help yourself or support our cause, please get in touch with enquiries@nationalnumeracy.org.uk Find out all about our work at www.nationalnumeracy.org.uk The National Numeracy Challenge is our free and easy-to-use website where people can improve their confidence and skills with numbers. Last week, we welcomed representatives from National Numeracy to the The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI) offices for an inspiring discussion on the progress of our funded initiative – the ‘Parental Engagement Programme’, now expanded to the ‘Schools and Families Programme’. This programme is dedicated to empowering parents and carers in disadvantaged communities across the North West by encouraging active participation in their children's numeracy journey, which research shows has a profound impact on their learning outcomes. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in driving this impactful initiative forward: Debbie C., CISI Future Foundation Trustee; Samuel Sims, CEO at National Numeracy; Siân Devine, National Numeracy Partnerships Manager; Beth Barnes Schools and Families Programme Manager; Jennifer C., CISI Future Foundation Manager; Victoria Nye, CISI Future Foundation Trustee. Together, we’re building a strong foundation for lifelong learning! #NumeracyMatters #EducationForAll #CommunityImpact #LifelongLearning #FutureOfEducation

📢 Our agony aunts Sally and Tamsin are back for #NumberConfidenceWeek! This story highlights how being in a leadership position doesn’t mean we always feel confident. But admitting a lack of confidence can feel very exposing. For anyone who has felt this way, we’re spreading the word that you are certainly not alone. It’s also true that you CAN improve your maths at any age, and that builds confidence. 🌟 https://bit.ly/3YwxURj #Leadership #Confidence #MathsAnxiety #PersonalGrowth #LifelongLearning

With just two weeks to go until #NumberConfidenceWeek, we want to highlight our fantastic supporters who make this campaign possible. ✨ Special thanks to our Founding Supporter TP ICAP and Lead Supporters Barclays, Capital One UK, Experian, The Lord Mayor's Appeal, and Vanquis Banking Group! 👏 This year, #NumberConfidenceWeek is focusing on the gender confidence gap. TP ICAP’s Emma Prophet, Group Head of Ops, says: "Confidence in using numbers is crucial for women and girls, as it directly impacts their career choices, earnings, and overall social mobility. By fostering number confidence, we can help bridge the gender gap in numeracy skills and create more equitable opportunities for all." When we launched the National Numeracy Gender Taskforce earlier this year, I was thrilled to get stuck into a project that speaks to so many personal passions – equality, social mobility, education for all. And although it can be hard to predict the direction of initiatives like these, I was very keen to give it a go… And thanks to the expertise and determination of members in our second session this Tuesday, I’m filled with renewed energy and passion and very much excited about how we - as organisations across the nation - can tangibly make a difference in tackling the gender number confidence gap. Watch this space! ⭐ For more detail on what we’re up to: https://lnkd.in/eVH96k9M ⭐ And the deeper we dive, the more we find. So I’m super excited National Numeracy are digging into numeracy and gender some more for this November’s charity campaign.
