No dia 31 de outubro, deu-se a estreia da 4ª edição do nosso programa Cientista Regressa à Escola em Vila Franca do Campo, na Ilha de São Miguel. 🙌🏼 Este evento foi possível graças à cientista Ana Cristina Esteves, representante da Universidade de Aveiro e do CESAM - Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, que organizou as atividades educativas e dinâmicas para as crianças. We are pleased to share that the Same Migrant Community programme is expanding its outreach across the UK, thanks to a generous grant of over £13000 from the Edina Trust. 🌍🔬 This year, we will be providing science workshops to over 150 children, conducted in both Portuguese and Arabic. Last week I had the opportunity to participate in a Native Scientists workshop at Thomas Tallis School in London, as part of the Same Migrant Community Programme 🇬🇧🇵🇹 It was a great challenge and rewarding experience to carry out a workshop for children, in Portuguese, and about my PhD work. 🎉 On October 18th, we kicked off the 12th edition of our Same Migrant Community (SMC) programme with two workshops for the Portuguese-speaking community in collaboration with CONNECTS-UK-UK and Camões - Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P. These workshops connected Portuguese-speaking scientists with local students, inspiring them with complex scientific topics presented in their heritage language. 🌍🔬 Cátia Verguete, from Instituto Camões, shared her thoughts on the experience: "The Native Scientists session at Thomas Tallis met multiple educational objectives and was therefore phenomenal. The scientists presented their research in a captivating and dynamic way, with simplicity, but without distorting the content, which is truly complex, relevant and up to date. Everyone left the session feeling they can aim high if they invest in their education. I have no doubt that this applied science class will be one of the most unforgettable Portuguese lessons for our students."
