Happy Mother's Day! 💐 If you're out enjoying the National Park, help protect ground nesting birds and their chicks, like this curlew, by staying on the designated tracks and keeping dogs under close control - disturbance may cause her to abandon the nest! #MothersDay #KeepToTheTracks #GroundNestingBirds #NewForest #NewForestCode 📷 Roger Wilmshurst Forestry England

🕐 The clocks go forward in the early hours of Sunday morning bringing longer, lighter evenings. However, the shift also means darker mornings for the next few weeks, so it’s as important as ever to take extra care while driving across the #NewForest. 🐎 Remember, the National Park’s iconic ponies and commoner’s other livestock can step out at any time. Please give animals a wide berth and always pass them slowly. #PassWideAndSlow #ExpectTheUnexpected

It's been six months since the New Forest Youth Board launched through the Youth for Climate and Nature (YouCAN) scheme! Today's #MidwayMoment celebrates some of their achievements in that time: 🕰️ Over 150 voluntary hours given 🙋 Represented young people at six board meetings, such as the New Forest Consultative Panel 🎤 Contributed to three consultations, including the Local Plan 🎪 Attended four events, including opening and speaking at the New Forest National Park Volunteer Fair The Youth Board and the representation they give on behalf of other young people is possible thanks to National Lottery players and funded through the National Lottery Community Fund. Watch some of the members explain why youth voice is important to them, especially in relation to climate and nature. Specialised Carbon Literacy Training developed and delivered by the New Forest NPA and accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project thanks to the Youth for Climate and Nature (YouCAN) scheme has already reached 34 environmental and community leaders as we celebrate the project’s #MidwayMoment. The training offers the chance to establish a rounded understanding of the environment and changing climate through a #NewForest lens and looks at both greenhouse gas emission sources and local actions we can all take to reduce our impact on the National Park and the world around us. Action pledges submitted as a result of the training could save around 13 tonnes of CO2 or CO2 equivalent emissions per year, with more pledges made with every session. ⚖️ This is equates to 1.5 people’s annual emissions or somebody driving from the New Forest to Singapore and back, twice – a total of more than 30,000 miles. 🐴 13 tonnes is also equivalent to the estimated weight of roughly 37 healthy adult New Forest ponies. The New Forest National Park's Carbon Literacy Training programme and every pledge made as a result of it has been funded through the Climate Action Fund and made possible thanks to National Lottery players. Find out more about #YouCAN through the link below or consider a pledge that’s possible for you make, from eating locally and seasonally to reducing unnecessary journeys in the car. https://lnkd.in/emFNpskJ The National Lottery Community Fund

Join Naomi at dawn (Saturday, 29 March) for a sunrise walk to learn about the Forest’s birds and listen out for an early-season dawn chorus: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ew_5XYzd Or, join Jim (Friday, 28 March) to explore hidden paths through Burley and out onto the wilds of the west of the Forest: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eZQ8nGZa #Awakening #NewForestAwakeningFestival

'I’ve been able to just work as hard as I want and get to where I want because YouCAN’s provided that funding and those projects. They’ve taken a barrier down the way I see it.' Today's #MidwayMoment is all about Charlie, an intern at the Countryside Education Trust and previously a Young Adult Ranger at The Parks Foundation - both projects supported by the Youth for Climate and Nature (YouCAN) scheme. Thanks to YouCAN and through tutoring from dedicated staff Charlie has found his passion for working outdoors and gained valuable practical experience. This was possible thanks to National Lottery players and through funding from The National Lottery Community Fund 💚 Read more about Charlie's YouCAN story on our website: https://lnkd.in/eEKYas6e #YouCAN #GreenCareers #Internship #NewForest #NationalLottery The National Lottery Community Fund Countryside Education Trust The Parks Foundation
