Rewilding is hope. It addresses climate and ecological breakdown, with people at its heart. Think big, act wild!

About us

Rewilding is hope for the future. It is the large scale restoration of nature to the point where it can take care of itself again - and take care of us. It can replenish, reconnect and revitalise nature, and has people, communities and green economies at its heart. It captures carbon, prevents flood and droughts and wildfires. It cleans air, soil and water. It improves our health and well being. Because if nature thrives, we all thrive. Rewilding Britain was established in 2015 as the first charity in Britain focused on rewilding. We want to see rewilding restoring and rejuvenating 30% of Britain by 2030. We prove that rewilding can work - by bringing together the hundreds of landowners and managers across Britain in our new Rewilding Network - large landowners, NGOs, farmers, community groups and local projects - to share experiences, research, expertise and support. We also push for policy change and funding to enable and support rewilding, and engage thousands more in campaigning, spreading the word and supporting us. Join us!

To achieve 30% rewilding, we need to think differently about land use. Our Rewilding Manager Sara King visited Forestry and Land Scotland last week alongside the Forestry England Wild Kielder area project manager to hear about their plans for nature recovery at their Glen Prosen site. This upland landscape is a mixture of commercial forestry, peatland and moorland, and there are exciting plans afoot to put nature recovery at the heart of the future vision for the area, with huge potential for people to live and work on the land. To find out more about Sara and the team's work, visit our Rewilding Network page on the website (🔗 link in comments).  📷: Sara King / Rewilding Britain

September is here and as MPs prepare to return to Parliament once again, now is a crucial time to get nature recovery firmly back on their agenda. In a world wrecked by biodiversity loss, habitat destruction and climate breakdown, rewilding can replenish nature’s remarkable web of life — restoring habitats, natural processes, and the diversity and abundance of native species. Want to give them a wild welcome? Send them a copy of our Rewilding Manifesto via email and we've even drafted an email for you so it barely takes a minute (🔗 Link in comments).

Your August #rewildingwins are here 🌳 1. The Missing Lynx Exhibition organised by @missing-lynx-project was a great success, educating 8,413 visitors across ten venues about the lynx's historical presence and ecological importance in Britain. 2. The EU’s new #NatureRestorationLaw is now in effect, requiring the restoration of 20% of European land and sea by 2030. This legislation will boost biodiversity and build resilience against climate change. Rewilding could help Britain reach a similar target. 3. Glow-worms light up Cornwall – 50 captive-bred glow-worms are being reintroduced to the Lost Gardens of Heligan by Rewilding Coombeshead, boosting local populations and introducing them to a different part of the Estate. 4. England celebrated a rare triumph as two white-tailed eagle chicks fledged successfully for only the second time in over 240 years. This marks a significant milestone in their reintroduction journey. 4. Scotland is taking a bold step to protect its marine life with a public consultation that could ban bottom-trawl fishing in 20 marine protected areas. Share these positive news stories and follow us for your monthly dose of #rewildinghope. We have space for both nature and farming in Britain 🌱🚜 "Without healthy soils, pollinators, a stable climate, reliable water supply and resilient landscapes, our food systems cannot be sustained." Various studies, including the UK Government commissioned National Food Strategy, show how we can deliver our 30% nature recovery commitments without touching productive farmland or impacting on overall food production. Read more on how the UK Government can support farmers to rewild and boost food security in our CEO Rebecca Wrigley's blog ⬇️ along with 4 other key ways rewilding can address their BIG priorities. https://lnkd.in/gfQ7_f3H  Let's think big and support farms and nature! We're proud to sign Oceana UK's open letter, together with an alliance of 18 other environmental groups, urging Ed Miliband to withdraw the previous government's approval of new oil and gas licences – a ⚠️ third ⚠️ of which are within Marine Protected Areas, despite the harm they cause. Now is the moment for the UK to lead the way in #rewilding our oceans 🌊 https://lnkd.in/eti_wmwK

🚨 BREAKING: We have officially filed our legal case against recent oil and gas licences in UK waters! ⚖️ Our legal case highlights the failure of the previous government to consider the extreme impact of oil spills, the ongoing climate crisis, and the disregard for expert advice. It’s clear: These licences threaten our ocean, our marine protected areas, our wildlife, and our climate. 👊 In collaboration with Greenpeace UK, Friends of the Earth Scotland, and 19 other NGOs, we’ve also sent an open letter to the Secretary of State, urging him to concede our case. 🌊 The new government now has a chance to demonstrate true leadership by withdrawing these licences and protecting our seas. Now, more than ever, it's time to shift away from fossil fuels and begin a just and fair transition towards renewables, and a sustainable future. 🌍 📢 #EndOffshoreDrilling #OceanProtection #EnvironmentalLaw #OceanConservation #BigOil #FossilFuels #OilandGas
