🚀 Finished the Newton Foundations Course by Newton Venture Program! Here are my key takeaways: 1. Gained a solid understanding of what venture capital is, how different types of firms operate, and the overall venture ecosystem. 2. Now fluent in terms and concepts like due diligence, exit pathways, valuation, and more, that are crucial in navigating the VC world. 3. It's fascinating how VCs cater to the needs of entrepreneurs and their portfolio companies, both in funding the company as well as helping with the need in the strategic growth of the company grow creating a balance between the two. 4. Skills like communication and empathy are crucial in building trustful relationships between entrepreneurs and VCs, ensuring a foundation for mutual success. Additionally, when VCs leverage skills like strategic negotiation, proactive mentoring, and strategic planning, they not only support the entrepreneur’s vision but also create a collaborative environment that drives long-term success for both parties. This approach transforms the VC-founder relationship into a powerful partnership that benefits everyone involved. 5. Learned about essential tools like Visible.vc, Affinity.co, Fundwave, VESTBERRY, Crunchbase, DealRoom, and PitchBook—each critical for various aspects of the venture process. The framework used in this course was absolutely a game changer for me and made it really easy to understand and break down each step. The structure of the framework was like this:   1. Required Knowledge     2. Necessary Skills     3. The Right Mindset     4. Best Tools to Use  Thank you Newton Venture Program! This course has truly equipped me with the foundation needed to thrive in the venture space. Highly recommended! 🌟 #NewtonFoundations #VentureCapital #Entrepreneurship #VC #Startups #Innovation #Investment #Networking #Learning #BusinessGrowth #TechStartups

Are you guilty of enabling 'hushed hybrid' in your organisation? 🤫 As more companies encourage (or enforce) office time - a new trend is emerging. 'Hushed hybrid' is when managers enforce a certain amount of time in the office on paper, but turn a blind eye to more-than-you're-entitled-to-WFH in practice. A friend of mine recently told me this was the case for her - a huge corporate enforcing 4 days in the office which would essentially break her highly fragile, logistical juggle with young kids and full time working. Luckily, her direct manager is comfortable with her continuing to make it work the way she has but it's all under the radar. This pushing of WFH into the shadows - making it feel like a guilty act or something you should hide - is a real step backwards for flexible working. At Newton Venture Program, we work from the office two days a week. On these days, we prioritise meetings and collaborative tasks. For the other days, staff can work from wherever they like. And they can access a week of 'work from abroad' leave each year.  We're also highly output focussed. But this hushed hybrid trends has got me thinking - flexible working policies on paper should always be celebrated and reinforced in practice. We should regularly touch base with our teams to check the current offering is still working for them. We should never roll our eyes or tut when someone has to switch around their office days due to personal needs. And we should always ensure teams feel trusted and empowered to get on with their work, wherever they are. Time for our loud hybrid era 📣 #hybridworking #trust #hushedhybrid #worklifebalance

    Diversity-X VC | Newton Fellow | Bermudian Trailblazer 🇧🇲 | The Purpose Project ⚡️

When I first moved to Wales, finding a community of underrepresented entrepreneurs who shared my goals was challenging. It was difficult to locate a group where I truly felt at home—a "tribe" of like-minded individuals. That changed when I connected with remarkable people like Andrea Enning, Mariam Abdillahi Kidson, Sharon Kostini, Dr. Youmna Mouhamad, PhD (Raising EIS/SEIS), Chris Skinner, and Emily Pugh. Together, we began building an inclusive environment for entrepreneurship in Cardiff. The Diverse Founders Networking Nights are open to all founders who are often underestimated, overlooked, and underrepresented. These events are for anyone seeking a supportive community to help navigate the journey of changing the world or making a difference in their local community through entrepreneurship. Connecting with these inspiring individuals has been a turning point for me, and I’m excited about how we’re growing a community that truly makes an impact. Let’s continue to expand this network together! If you know someone who’s building a business and looking for a supportive community, encourage them to join us at The Tramshed Tech in Grangetown, Cardiff, for our Diverse Founders Networking Night. Proudly sponsored by Barclays Eagle Labs and The Tramshed Tech in collaboration with Diversity-X, this event offers a chance to connect with fellow founders and leverage the incredible resources available. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to work with The Tramshed Tech Team and Barclays Eagle Labs on this exciting event. Following our spotlight talks, we’ll shift focus to networking. Let’s come together, connect, and contribute to building a vibrant, inclusive community of visionary business leaders in South Wales. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 📆 Save the Date: 🕕 18:00 - 20:30 📅 Tuesday, September 3rd 📍 Tramshed Tech, Grangetown, Cardiff 🎫 Book your place here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/euxv8mrY
