Many students graduate with technical skills but lack the real-world experience and employability skills that industries demand. That’s where NextGen RISE comes in – the Remote Industry Studio Experience designed to bridge that gap and prepare students for their future. What is RISE? Developed in partnership with Tom Box, Co-Founder of Blue Zoo Animation Studio, RISE bridges the gap between education and employment by replicating real studio tools, workflows, feedback, and challenges in one learning platform. Through RISE bootcamps, students: ✅ Work in small teams on industry-written briefs ✅ Learn workflows and industry tools ✅ Receive expert feedback from creative professionals ✅ Attend sessions with a career coach ✅ Develop employability, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills ✅ Graduate with a stronger portfolio and professional confidence How did RISE begin? Working with Tom, we first introduced RISE in 2021 to support bootcamp delivery during two pilot projects with Blue Zoo. The results were really encouraging - students thrived, their work was amazing, and they finished the bootcamps more confident and prepared for their future careers. Since then, RISE has been successfully integrated into NextGen Skills Bootcamps and short courses, delivering proven results in preparing students for the creative industries. With every bootcamp and cohort, we have been learning, refining and improving RISE, ensuring it provides a great learning experience. Now, with support from Ufi VocTech Trust, we’re ready to bring RISE beyond NextGen - partnering with educators and industry to deliver RISE Bootcamps in classrooms across the UK. ⌨️Programming Remote Work Experience 2025 🎮 During February, students across multiple NextGen colleges pushed their coding skills to the next level, creating their own retro inspired combat cycles and RPGs from scratch in just five days! As part of the challenge, they received invaluable feedback from industry professionals at the halfway point, who were seriously impressed by the creativity, technical skill, and teamwork on display. 📽️ Check out the video below to see the incredible work from both first- and second-year students! We had some fantastic feedback from industry, including: 🎮 Hollie Page: "The students did a great job presenting, speaking passionately about their designs and even showing some blueprints and pseudo code! I was really impressed with their confidence and teamwork." 🎮 Nikolaos G.: "The students' fresh ideas and strong technical skills show they're ready to make their mark in the games industry. NextGen's well-structured programme and supportive environment helps develop exactly what our industry needs." A huge thank you to Hollie, Nikolaos and all our industry mentors William Meaton, Greg W., Poppy Curran Jones, Lewis Wakeford, Will Blackburn, Samuel Neesam, Peter Kullgard, Tom Scott, Ridam Rahman, Maret Ward, Sam Claydon, and Corrin Wilson who took the time to support and inspire the students! These remote work experience weeks are about much more than just building technical skills - they provide students with hands-on experience and develop essential problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Through engagement with industry and structured feedback, students gain valuable insights into workplace expectations, helping to prepare them for future careers.
