At Nicholsons, we pride ourselves in the services we offer. One of the services we provide in arboriculture is the ability to work efficiently and safely at height using mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs). For our clients, using MEWPs allows us to offer peace of mind while working around properties instilling confidence that Nicholsons have reasonably assessed the risks of working at height to the highest industry standards. Our 20 years of in-house arboricultural experience and our 13 years of membership through the Arboricultural Association, has given us a unique understanding of our industry. We believe that by utilising the most up to date techniques and technologies we are in the best place to provide a high end, reliable service. As a woodland manager understanding threats to our tree inventory is vital. Ips could threaten the UK timber industry in ways still being understood, none of which would be positive. Max Blake et al provide valuable insight into how changing conditions will affect this new pest’s mobility and the condition of spruce across the UK as a result. Our climate it changing and for many tree species this is making growing conditions more challenging and ultimately making trees more susceptible to pests and pathogens. The ongoing question is: are we managing conifer crops as holistically as possible to promote tree health?
The finding of a breeding population of Ips typographus in Kent, England, in 2018 and subsequent findings in pheromone traps across the southeast of England, has led to an urgent need to improve understanding of environmental suitability across the UK. 🌍📈 Head of Entomology, Max Blake, along with colleagues from the University of Cambridge have just published ‘Phenology of the spruce bark beetle Ips typographus in the UK under past, current and future climate conditions’. ➡️ Read the full The New Phytologist Foundation article online: https://ow.ly/B9sp50TPsvB
