Yesterday, we gathered at Doncaster Racecourse and Exhibition Centre for our largest off-site ever—and wow, what a day! It was all about sharing ideas, catching up face-to-face, and pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve together for our clients. When it comes to cross team collaboration, it's easy to make assumptions like: "all they've got to do is send us a spreadsheet" "how hard is it to upload a JSON to such and such system" "I could have done their bit of work before stand up" If any of these sound familiar, read on. Nimble Approach have been working closely with Asda’s Data Science and Engineering teams who are developing cutting capabilities to develop their Rewards programme, striving to create a personalised experience for their customers. But when it comes to making tangible, customer-facing changes off the back of that work, there’s a lot of teams across the business who need to play a part. This has meant that every new campaign of offers requires a sprint to the finish line, causing unnecessary stress for all involved. Stepping away from the office to get a change of scenery, I facilitated a workshop with the relevant teams to help improve their understanding of what each of the other teams have to do to get an offer from an idea, into a customer's hands. We started with the creation of an end-to-end process map (using an Ishikawa Diagram as the base, but serving a different purpose), capturing pain points along the way, and in highlighting those pains, others in the room were able to understand how those pains impacted their own work. This quickly brought to light the sheer number of things that need to be done in order to get offers into a customer's hands, and we were able to ask important questions like "why?", "why though?", "but WHY!?". This workshop wasn't just a one off and problem solved. It is the first in a series that we have kicked off with ASDA, and the first step was to create empathy. Quoting Laura Bouttell of Quarterdeck: > Empathy isn't doing someone's job from your position of strength, you need to understand their experience and stand in their shoes. Now that we aren't making the same old assumptions, the conversation has changed. It's no longer "all they've got to do is send us a spreadsheet", and it's now more along the lines of "if we did this, would that help you?"
