Thank you to the Elevate practices that have brightened ING Media's walls with these stunning artworks! Elevate is our accelerator programme for emerging businesses run by leaders from ethnically diverse backgrounds. The brainchild of the brilliant Roxane McMeeken, we founded Elevate because we recognised that it was our responsibility to promote better representation in the built environment industry. Our bespoke package of PR and communications consultancy has supported a dozen businesses so far, and applications for the next cohort are now open. Join Finn for a short tour through the six artworks ING has commissioned from Elevate practices Askew Cavanna Architects, NOOMA Studio, Kristofer Adelaide Architecture, beyond design, Feix&Merlin Architects, and Neil Kahawatte Architects. The practices formed part of the first two cohorts of ING's #Elevate initiative and have created unique works to hang on the walls of our #Shoreditch offices. Elevate, ING's accelerator programme designed to support small businesses in the built world with ethnically diverse leadership, has so far helped 12 different organisations over the past two years and has just opened applications for its third cohort - check if your business is eligible and apply to be a part of the programme now: https://lnkd.in/ejpNbCnw #Elevate #Architecture #SmallBusiness #SME #BuiltEnvironment #BuiltWorld

  • NOOMA Studio Director Ramsey Yassa made a guest appearance on this week's Open City The Brief podcast to discuss some of the architectural profession's most sensitive and urgent issues. From the staggering figure of 21,000 worker deaths in Saudi Arabia’s Giga projects to questions around royal-owned rental properties and the exodus of architectural talent, we explored the complexities architects face today. The conversation touched on: - The ethical implications for architects involved in international projects with serious human rights concerns - The “royal scandal” emerging from mouldy, hard-to-heat properties owned by the Duchy of Cornwall - ACME’s big reveal of scaled-back plans for the Liverpool St station revamp - Insights from the Pay 100 survey and the impact on industry morale Difficult but vital topics to address if we want to build a profession that stands for integrity, equity, and respect for human lives. Join us as we dig into the heart of these issues, examining what it truly means to be an architect today. Huge thanks to host Frances Williams and Merlin Fulcher for having us on the show. hashtag #Architecture hashtag #EthicsInArchitecture hashtag #OpenCity hashtag #TheBrief hashtag #DesignForChange

Throwing it back to the #PerformingGardens on #PhoenixRoad from #LFA2022! ✨ Three timber pavilions functioned as podiums for talks, performance and storytelling, inviting residents and passers-by to take to the stage or observe an act. The project acted as a testbed for transforming the area into a greener and healthier place, encouraging residents to embrace their role as active citizens. This project features in NLA's publication ‘Public London: Activating the City’, looking back at some of the momentous projects that have shaped London’s public realm over the last two decades. Last week we hosted an #Elevate session with NOOMA Studio - a growing London-based #architecture practice focused on lived-experience based architecture. From large-scale sensitive #regeneration schemes to smaller design and art projects, the practice lets the skills and past experiences of each of their varied team come to the fore to create culturally informed designs. The afternoon, part of a series of pro-bono workshops and events offered to small, diverse-led businesses in the #BuiltEnvironment, focused on how Nooma can communicate its unique perspective and grow over the coming years. Find out more about the Elevate programme: https://lnkd.in/e8f54cz9 #Elevate #Architecture #Architects #Design #London #BuiltEnvironment #Workshops

Competition boards can be tricky. However, there are ways to make them information-rich and visually compelling. There is a process I like to follow with clients when working on a competition board and it is informed by my work in branding. - Firstly, define your audience and your key message(s). This will ensure you are speaking directly to the decision-makers and fulfilling their brief. - What makes your proposal different from your competitors? Is there a key approach, design element or company structure in place? - Choose the best drawing types to communicate your messages. Often this is a combination of objective and subjective illustrations (see previous post). - Balance being information-rich with clarity. I often use vignettes and handwriting to bring a hierarchy to images. These illustrations were for NOOMA Studio, Pollard Thomas Edwards and HOK. I particularly enjoyed working with Pollard Thomas Edwards. Their ethnographic approach meant I could include Alan Moore, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Boudicca in one image! #illustration #competition #architecture #storytelling
