  • 🎉 A special celebration event took place at Coddington Village Hall on Saturday to showcase its revamped facilities. The event was organised after village hall trustees successfully applied for £7,500 via our Local Communities Fund (LCF) to breathe new life into the building. Leader, Councillor Sam Smith, and Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health, Councillor Scott Carlton, joined the celebrations and took a look at how the village hall had been improved. Work has included the installation of new toilets and improvements to the building's kitchen facilities. The most recent round of LCF will see more than 50 groups benefitting from a share of £300,000 of community-boosting funding. #Nottinghamshire #LocalGovernment #Communities

  • 🎓 A major scheme to rebuild an ‘outstanding’ Nottinghamshire school for children with special educational needs is nearing completion. Yeoman Park Academy in Mansfield Woodhouse is scheduled to welcome pupils aged from three to 19 for the first time after the Easter break on Monday 28 April. The purpose-built school, which will be run by Diverse Academies Trust, will boast high-quality teaching spaces, a fully equipped hydrotherapy pool, a multi-use games area, sensory gardens, and a spacious hall. We have contributed more than £2.5 million to the scheme – which has been funded and delivered by the DfE’s Schools Rebuilding Programme – to secure an additional 28 places. The project is part of a wider programme being delivered by ourselves to create up to 490 additional special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) school places by 2026. • 🎉 It’s official! 🎉 Adventures, based at Mill Waters, has been confirmed as a go-to destination after being named the number one Place to Visit at the Discover Ashfield Awards. Now in their fifth year, the awards recognise the fantastic people, organisations, and businesses within Ashfield and their achievements over the past 12 months. Adventures’ achievements were celebrated again at Full Council last Thursday when our Cabinet Member for Children and Families, Councillor Tracey Taylor, congratulated the team. She said: 💬 “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire team at Adventures for their dedication and passion. From the initial vision of enhancing opportunities for local people to experience new and exciting activities, to the launch of the Adventures provision last spring, your efforts have been truly commendable. “This achievement is also a reflection of the county council’s unwavering commitment to youth services and its dedication to finding creative ways to provide new opportunities and experiences for young people. “By offering these experiences alongside skilled and qualified practitioners, we are empowering young people to reach their full potential and thrive. It is through this continued investment in youth services that we have so much to celebrate here in Nottinghamshire.” 🏆🥇 Congratulations to everyone at Adventures! • 🎊 We’re celebrating the 757,000 tree planted in Notts since 2020 🎊 We support Greenwood Community Forest, one of 15 community forests across the country, to plant trees and create woodland as part of the national Defra-funded Trees for Climate programme. They have successfully transformed 577 hectares of land into new woodland over the past five years. Last Tuesday, we attended a special celebration at the Thorney Abbey Farm site near Southwell to mark their achievements. There are lots of benefits to planting new trees like: 🌳 new habitats for wildlife 🌳 increased biodiversity 🌳 improved air quality 🌳 new green spaces for communities to enjoy 🌳 supporting our Net Zero ambitions The work continued at the celebration with: 🌱 county council chairman Councillor Richard Butler planting a Bramley Apple tree 🌱 students from Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst campus in Southwell planting trees as part of their environmental and land management course 🌱 Colonel Roger Merryweather, whose great-grandfather Henry was granted permission to take cuttings from the original Bramley Apple tree to sell, planting a Merryweather Damson tree 🌱 Christine Channing, also of the Merryweather family, planting another tree We want to say a huge thank you to our partners who joined us at the event, Defra, Forestry Commission, Woodland Trust and Sherwood Forest Trust, as well as to the Greenwood Community Forest team who have worked so hard to make these new woodlands a reality. #GreenwoodCommunityForest #TreesForClimate #Conservation #TreePlanting Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Forestry Commission The Woodland Trust The Sherwood Forest Trust

  • 📈 As a council, we have a responsibility to invest in our communities – not just through the services we provide, but in how we procure them. Therefore, we're absolutely delighted to reveal that more than 70% of the county council’s current procurement contracts have been awarded to Nottinghamshire suppliers, helping to boost the local economy by millions of pounds. This comes as 19 new contracts worth an estimated £113 million have been started in quarter three of the 2024/25 financial year – with our procurement team working on a further 113 projects. Up to 74% of county council contracts are awarded to suppliers based in Nottinghamshire and 56% to small or medium-sized business (SMEs) in the county. Councillor Andre Camilleri, Deputy Cabinet Member for Finance and Resource, said: "By keeping money local, we support jobs, strengthen the economy, and build lasting partnerships."
