  • OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Eco-friendly crosslinking technology for water borne coating systems with reduced emissions"  Presenter: Andreas Hermes of allnex Germany GmbH Venue: Webinar Date: Wednesday 16th October 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/e2d2v2Y6 Abstract: The coating industry has long relied on various crosslinking technologies, such as amino or phenol formaldehyde and isocyanates, known for their functionality and performance. However, increasing regulatory hurdles and critical labelling of resins necessitate enhanced protection for employees handling these hazardous substances. ALLNEX has pioneered the development of a formaldehyde- and isocyanate-free technology that matches the exceptional properties of traditional melamine-formaldehyde resins, including superior UV stability, high chemical resistance and excellent surface finish. Historically, such advances products were only available for solvent based systems. ALLNEX has now successfully adapted this technology for aqueous coating systems. Our innovative product, CYMEL° NF 2264/87 WA is a formaldehyde-free melamine resin with high solids, low solvent content and balanced properties suitable for a wide range of applications. • OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Digital Twins Aligning Colour & Appearance Communication" Presenter: Darryl Gregory of X-Rite Venue: Zoom Webinar Date: Wednesday 25th September 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/ecbVZnVX Abstract: Navigating the complexities of achieving aesthetic harmony and high production quality for painted finished goods can be a daunting task. Designers often grapple with uncertainty surrounding how the colour choices will translate in appearance of final product, while polymer producers strive to meet sometimes ambiguous specifications on appearance and functionality, and paint producers must navigate not only around colour but also appearance & performance on specific substrates. These challenges often result in prolonged time to market, numerous iterations, and increased waste. X-Rite unveils a game-changing solution: leveraging digital materials twins based on real colours and surface appearances. By harnessing the power of these digital replicas, we demonstrate how you can streamline your product launches and pave the way for successful outcomes. No matter if you are working with effect pigments, transparent paints, complex geometries or material mixes, X-Rite’s colour management and appearance solutions offer an innovative approach that accelerates the product development process, reduces iteration cycles, minimizes waste, and ultimately ensures the realization of your vision with precision and efficiency. • OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Halox® Organic and Inorganic Corrosion Inhibitors in Performance Coatings" Presenter: Dr Lucas Zimmerman of Division of ICL - HALOX® Venue: Zoom Webinar Date: Wednesday 19 June at 2:30pm Registration: https://lnkd.in/eNDeYwkt Abstract: Corrosion of metals is a major source of failure in construction and engineering and very costly. Therefore the prevention of corrosion is of utmost importance. The use of organic coatings on metal substrates is the most common solution in combatting corrosion. To ensure a level of high performance and long term protection of these coatings corrosion inhibitors are often added. The use of zinc dust, zinc phosphates and other inorganic phosphates and borates have been widely used as corrosion inhibitors for some time. The use of organic compounds in inhibiting corrosion has growing significantly. This presentation demonstrates how the performance of a coating may be increased by taking advantage of the synergies between different types of Halox corrosion inhibiting pigments and organic inhibitors. We also demonstrate how Halox organic corrosion inhibitors improve other properties of the coating. OIL & COLOUR CHEMISTS' ASSOCIATION Lake Chemicals & Minerals #corrosion #paints #ccoatings

  • OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Quartzene® aerogel as performance additive in paint and coatings." Presenter: Alexander Grahn of Svenska Aerogel AB Venue: Webinar Date: Wednesday 8th May 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/eKueVvx4 Quartzene® aerogels are an aerogel-like, porous, amorphous silica material produced from a completely water-borne process that differs from other ways of manufacturing aerogels. The aerogel with its porous structure contributes to excellent thermal insulation, improved fire behavior and lightweight to several applications within the building and construction, process industry and transport segment. Quartzene® can be used as a thermal insulative filler to decrease the thermal conductivity of a paint or a coating, for increasing the reflectivity for a cool roof paint and for stabilization of fire retardant and intumescent paints for example. • OCCA Weekly Webinar "Mesh reinforced pressure sensitive adhesive for linerless label design"  Presenter: Emily Brogden AMRSC of University of Warwick. Venue: Webinar Date: Wednesday 1st May 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/e58eu2Ty Abstract: In this talk, we will highlight briefly recent scientific developments from our team in the area of sustainable polymer colloid chemical engineering, including nanogels as surfactants, and the idea to use crystallization on the surface of emulsion droplets as a tool to fabricate surface textured capsules. The main part of the talk will focus on a concept for an on-demand linerless pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) label. Containment of a PSA has been achieved by entrapment within a scaffolding 3D hard mesh structure. The label sticks upon instant application of heat and pressure, which softens and deforms the mesh allowing for PSA release. The design eliminates the need for a release liner and release coating in labels offering a more sustainable product. • OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Low emission premium interior wall coatings - advanced stain blocking and stain resistance for enhanced durability" Presenter: Maurille Secher of Synthomer. Venue: Zoom Webinar Date: Wednesday 20th March 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/eZJHEsC8 Abstract: Nowadays, one of the main defects impacting the durability of water-based interior wall paints is certainly the staining of the surface, and this often triggers the decision of the owner or occupants to start some refurbishment work. Increased demand for flat matt finishes and the desire for deeper color tones brings further challenge for the lifespan of the applied coating. In addition, consumers have stronger expectations in terms of life cycle of the product they purchase, and they are increasingly concerned about the hazardous profile of chemicals they bring into their family home. In this webinar, Synthomer’s polymer expert will explain the challenge of stained surface renovation and how to achieve higher stain resistance in matt paint formulations. The latest material technology innovations will be introduced, providing sustainable solutions for water-based coatings with extremely low impact on indoor air quality.
