Principal Analyst, Games Tech at Omdia

AI is not a monolith. A big theme of Omdia's work on AI in the games market is that there's enormous variation in how effective AI is at addressing different games industry use cases, and in how much of an impact AI stands to make in each area. The diagram below maps out our view of where we stand currently, rating each of the major AI tool categories on both maturity and impact potential. 2D asset creation, for instance, stands out as a relatively high maturity, high impact area where AI tools are already starting to deliver serious results. 3D asset creation, meanwhile, is set to make an even bigger splash, but technically has much further to go. Even in the relatively "low impact" areas on this chart, the domain-specific impact may still be huge. Improvements in testing, for instance, will never by themselves revolutionize game development. But we still fully expect that AI is poised to have a dramatic impact on how games are tested and evaluated. The accumulation of these individually smaller gains – and the multiplier effects as AI tools in adjacent areas begin to interact with each other – will be a key part of the story of AI in the games industry. #ai #genai #artificialintelligence #games #gamedev #gamesindustry #data #research

Cloud is not longer the cool new tech according to our expert analyst Peter Bryant speaking today at the #CanalysForums2024. GenAI is driving digital transformation because Boards are now more invested in tech but they're demanding quick ROI, which is slowing decision-making and lengthening sales cycles. Strategy management firms are now key partners to Boards in navigating GenAI, and multi-party co-sell is emerging as the solution. #GenAI #Cloud

At the Canalys Forums in Berlin today, our analysts Elsa Jasmine Nightingale and Ben Caddy shared key insights during the Expert Hub on Sustainability: Elsa: Big tech is scaling back near-term commitments due to regulatory changes and challenges in reaching net zero. But there's potential to turn these into realistic, short-term goals. Ben: Vendors can rebuild trust by being transparent and clear about the data they use in their reports and how detailed they are. Elsa: Product use is a significant part of emissions, and partners play a key role in helping vendors collaborate on sustainability. Ben: Despite a challenging year for ESG, key partners are committing to circularity, offering a reason for optimism. #sustainability #netzero #ESG #CanalysForums2024

"Cybersecurity has become ‘boring’, but it remains ever important and continues to be crucial to growth in the channel" - Matthew Ball Chief Analyst Matthew Ball highlights the ransomware crisis, as ransomware attacks rise by 52%. Cybersecurity has become ‘boring’, but it remains ever important and continues to be crucial to growth in the channel. But tolerance of vendors’ claims is low. Customers need to be protected from bad updates, poor support, and resilience risks. Platform adoption will change how customers discover and buy cybersecurity technology and how they are supported via services. Channel partners will continue to play a vital role for both vendors and customers during and after this transition. #CanalysForums2024 #CFEMEA24 #Cybersecurity #Ransomware
