Women make up less than 20% of #STEM roles globally. To encourage the next generation of amazing female engineers, it's incredibly important that young girls feel supported and represented 👷♀️🔧 100 primary school girls were invited to our Bristol office to learn about the diverse range of careers on offer. They got to try our VR headsets, learn about AI and coding, and try their hand at fibre splicing 🙌✨ A huge thank you to our Director of Fibre Build Georgia Grimes, and our Gender Equality Network, for putting on a brilliant and inspirational event! 💙

Huge thanks to Richard Tang of Zen Internet for having our very own CCO Katie Milligan as a guest on his show 🎙️ They had an insightful discussion covering a range of topics including being a woman in tech, the competitive landscape, and our exciting Building Digital UK (BDUK) agreement. …and the conversation doesn’t stop there! Catch the full interview ⏬

    CEO at Zen Internet

Check out my latest industry interview: https://lnkd.in/eKjPnuKh   After a cameo appearance by Openreach CEO Clive Selley, CCO Katie Milligan shares her own journey as a woman and mother of a young child in an industry with a significant majority of men, particularly in tech and leadership roles. Some of those over-assertive male behaviours need to change!   We then cover a whole load of interesting questions, starting with Katie’s reaction to the Sky/CityFibre deal, which saw the BT Group share price fall by over 6% on the day the deal was announced (although it had fully recovered a month later). Other key topics include Katie’s expectation of further deregulation from Ofcom as free market competition continues to build; no plans for Equinox 3; Openreach’s fantastic 1 million premises per month full fibre build rate and enviable 34% full fibre market penetration but declining overall customer base; XGS-PON plans; the recent £800m Building Digital UK (BDUK) Type C win; and will Openreach partner with Alt-Nets?   Huge thanks Katie, Clive, and all in team Openreach. You are a pleasure to work with. #fullfibre #broadband #bduk #womenintech Zen Internet

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re embracing the theme of #ReclaimingNarratives, which encourages the recognition and correction of the narratives of black history and culture. Across the month, we’ll be amplifying the experiences and achievements of our black colleagues as they share what black heritage means to them, their thoughts on reclaiming the narrative, and what more they’d like to see from us as a company to address the challenges faced. To kick off, Kolawole Daniel Odediran emphasises the importance of representation and building confidence amongst ethnic minorities, reminding us that despite negativity, we can achieve great things. 👂 Hear from Daniel in his own words 🔽 #BHM2024

Happy #InternationalCoffeeDay ☕️   The UK may be synonymous with ‘a nice cup of tea’, but not at Openreach, where a change is brewing!   Coffee is now the drink of choice, with 60% of our employees preferring it over tea.   The latte reigns supreme, while espresso and macchiato are less popular. Interestingly, granulated coffee has fallen out of favour, except in #Plymouth where our engineers defy the norm and keep it uniquely popular…   *Nearly 2,000 Openreach people took part in this unique survey, showcasing the people behind the uniforms.

We’re digitising our entire network! 🌐 The explosive growth of digital fibre services means most of our exchanges will soon route their last call. Tiny microprocessors and glass fibres need just a fraction of the space of old copper wires. Our new ‘super hub’ in Columbo House, London, showcases this transformation. This shift boosts future broadband speeds, enhances efficiency and reduces costs, while significantly cutting our space and power footprint 💡 We’re moving from 5,600 exchanges to just 1,000 super hubs! Watch our video to see how we’re future proofing #connectivity 👇 #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #FullFibre

It’s #TelegraphPoleAppreciation Day – and we might just be their number one fan! But we should actually all be grateful for telegraph poles, as they keep us connected 🌐   Did you know most of our poles are slow-grown Scots Pine from Finland? Thanks to the frigid winters and sustainable forestry, these trees grow slower, stronger, and straighter - giving them a lifespan of over 40 years! 🤯   Huge thanks to Scanpole for supplying us with top quality poles, helping us maintain the UK’s largest broadband network.   Curious about how these poles are made? Watch below for a behind-the-scenes look! #LetsReachZero
