🌍💙 5th October is **European Organ Donation Day** – a powerful initiative aimed at raising awareness of the life-saving potential of organ, tissue, and cell donation. This event, driven by the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM), Council of Europe, serves as a crucial reminder of the incredible impact donation can have on countless lives across the continent. At OrganOx, we are proud to be part of the effort to make a real difference —helping to shorten waiting lists by making every donated organ count. Every step we take is a step closer to transforming patient care. Let’s continue to spread the word, save lives, and be part of this profound journey. 💪❤️ #EuropeanOrganDonationDay #OneDecision #OrganDonation #EDQM

About us
"Living Organs For Life" Transforming transplantation with the OrganOx metra®. A transportable, automated ex vivo liver perfusion device. The core technology employed by the OrganOx metra® has been in development for over 15 years. During this time both of the founders (Professor Peter Friend and Professor Constantin Coussios) have driven the development of organ preservation and maintenance, formerly at the University of Cambridge and latterly at the University of Oxford. OrganOx Limited was founded in April 2008 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford. Conventional cold preservation involves storage of the liver at 4˚C, using a non-physiological perfusion solution that aims to minimise liver decay. By contrast, warm preservation seeks to re-create an environment that mimics the human body by continuously perfusing at physiological pressures and flows with oxygen-carrying red cells at 37˚C and providing nutrition. The liver is therefore functional during the preservation period, producing bile, metabolizing glucose and maintaining a physiological pH. This enables objective assessment of organ performance prior to transplant, extended preservation times, and the potential use of organs that are presently being discarded.

Last week, Dan Fower and Clare Swift had the pleasure of visiting NHS Blood and Transplant in the UK for a ministerial visit from Baroness Merron and Claire Hazelgrove, MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke, where they showcased our ongoing efforts to transform organ donation We're thrilled to partner with the NHS, sharing the same mission of improving health and wellbeing for all. Together, we're committed to delivering better care, driving innovation, and making a real difference in people's lives. #NHS #NHSBT #OrganDonation
It was great to show our new Minister how organ perfusion technologies can go even further in meeting UK transplant demand. In case you're wondering, the machine is circulating water with red food dye to a 3D-printed model liver. Thanks to Dan Fower Clare Swift Laura Barton and everyone who helped arrange.
