About us

At Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service, we understand the unique challenges faced by those working in the police and we’ve developed open access, online wellbeing resources that have been designed for policing – by policing. We want every member of the police service to feel confident that their wellbeing is taken seriously, and we’ll make sure that every force has access to the best guidance and support to provide world class wellbeing support for everyone who works for them. Along with support & guidance we’re focusing on providing resources for individual officers and staff, reducing the stigma around mental health, building resilience and improving self-help skills. Our support doesn’t stop when you leave the force. And we’re also here for the families and friends of those working in the police. The Oscar Kilo website is open access which means it doesn’t matter who you are, you can now find out about what the National Police Wellbeing Service offers and see the resources, guidance and examples of best practice that we signpost to. We’re also the only place that hosts the Blue Light Wellbeing Framework, and brings together everyone who is responsible for wellbeing within policing. Our aim is to help every member of the police service to understand how to build personal resilience, to feel confident that they can speak up when things aren’t going well and to get the best personalised support possible when they do. Monday 11th November marks the start of a wellbeing week designed for anyone working in an investigative role. Each day you can access a range of online sessions – choose the ones that suit you, from building personal resilience, developing a culture of care at work, and improving the care offered to support workers following the death of a child or young person. Working as an investigator is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also very challenging. The personal sacrifices you make, the responsibility to support victims, the continual exposure to trauma and high workloads can converge to take a toll on your wellbeing. Control room operators are often the first point of contact for victims or witnesses of crimes. From car accidents to child abuse and domestic violence. It’s a crucial role but it can also be tough. For the operators picking up the phone, there’s no time to process the things they hear, some of which can be really distressing – it’s all about the next call and helping the next person. It can take a toll. This #InternationalControlRoomWeek shines a light on the amazing work of those who work in the control room. And if you’re one of those people, it’s also a timely reminder to check in on your mental health – our mental health resources online are really worth checking out: https://lnkd.in/eMSpc-zc Want to find out more about the critical work of control room operators? It was an honour to come together with the Prince and Princess of Wales in Southport yesterday, where they met the bereaved families of those lost in the fatal knife attack in July, as well as emergency responders who were on the scene.    Our NPWS Service Director, Andy Rhodes OBE QPM, was present to facilitate the conversation between the responders and their Royal Highnesses at Southport Community Centre.    The royal couple thanked the emergency workers from police and health services and spoke about the importance of protecting their wellbeing and mental health.   If you know someone who is struggling, check out our mental health and wellbeing resources online: https://lnkd.in/eMSpc-zc
