Building the rapid charging network of the future⚡️

About us

Osprey Charging Network is a UK-wide, rapid electric vehicle charging network. Osprey fund, install and manage their network on behalf of landlord partners. The Osprey network is built to be reliable and easy to use. All Osprey chargers accept contactless payments, App payments, RFID payments and payment through all major third-party payment methods including fleet cards. Every charging point is also powered by 100% renewable electricity. Osprey Charging has been voted as one of the Top 3 Charging Networks in Zapmap’s annual rankings, and has been awarded ‘EV Driver Recommended Network’ status for the fourth consecutive year. At the 2023 Transport and Energy awards, Osprey was named Best EV Charging Network, and this was followed by a quadruple win at the Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards (EVIEs). These awards included Chargepoint Network of the Year and Private Sector Infrastructure Strategy of the Year.

  • In 2024, we acquired freehold land for two major Osprey charging hubs, on the A46 at Evesham and the M8 west of Glasgow, strengthening our investment in strategically-located infrastructure. These freehold hubs are now well underway: 🪐 Saturn Avenue, Paisley, Glasgow – Set to become Scotland’s largest public ultra-rapid charging hub, this 16 x 300kW charger site is located minutes from the M8 and Glasgow Airport, next to a McDonald's. Ready to go live this Spring. 🌳 A44/A46 Services, Evesham – A key transit location linking Cheltenham, Evesham, and Coventry, this site will feature 16 x 300kW chargers alongside established roadside amenities, offering a seamless charging experience for both local and long-distance drivers. Due to go live later this year. Osprey's hub strategy sees us build large, high-power charging facilities in prime locations on busy routes across the UK, to deliver the high quality public charging network that drivers love and rely on. By securing freehold sites, we gain greater flexibility of design, parallel revenue streams and long-term development, ensuring our sites maximise accessibility, ease of use, and reliability. As the demand for EVs continues to rise, Osprey remains focused on delivering the scale and reliability needed to power the transition to electric mobility. • Three new Osprey site expansions 🤝 Marston's PLC 🚀 We’ve expanded some of our busiest rapid charging locations to keep up with growing demand, strengthening our long-standing partnership with Marston’s. These are standard upgrades on the Osprey network to future-proof the sites and enhance charging options for EV drivers across the UK. These upgraded sites now offer greater capacity: 🌹 Rock Rose, Dover CT16 2ES - now with 3x75kW and 2x150kW. - Located just off the A2, providing a key charging stop for drivers in the South East. 🌿 The Camper Down Elm, Dundee DD2 4SW - now with 2 x 50kW and 2x150kW. - Conveniently located just off the A90, supporting travel across Scotland. 🌲 Pine Marten, Dunbar EH42 1LE - now with 2 x 75kW and 1 x 150kW. - Positioned just off the A1, ensuring fast and reliable charging for drivers on one of the UK’s busiest routes. Osprey's site upgrade programme ensures our nationwide network keeps pace as the EV market develops: - Expanding existing capacity to meet increasing demand and future-proof these key locations - A mix of rapid (50kW/75kW) and ultra-rapid (150kW+) chargers to cater to different journey needs - Charging sites co-located with amenities, giving drivers a place to take a break, grab a coffee or a meal, and make the most of their stop. These upgrades reinforce Osprey’s commitment to delivering a reliable and accessible charging network, ensuring drivers have the infrastructure they need. • We’re proud to celebrate two more team members being recognised as Top Women in EV! 🚀 Osprey's Head of Brand and External Affairs, Dora Clarke, joined Osprey in 2018 as Marketing Manager when the company had fewer than 10 people and charge points. Leading the team, she has played a key role in shaping Osprey's brand and communications as we’ve grown into one of the UK’s leading charging networks. 📈 Since joining as Marketing Manager in 2021, Greer Fyfe, now Head of Growth Marketing, has led major initiatives, including the award-winning Visions of the Future campaign. She’s also an integral member of our diversity & inclusivity team, helping to drive positive change within Osprey. Both are driving Osprey and the EV industry forward. • Wholesale electricity prices have come down since their 2022 peak. Why hasn't the cost of public charging? It's due to the way Standing Charges and Capacity Charges are calculated, which changed in 2022, resulting in unintended consequences that have fundamentally shifted the economics of running a charging network. These charges for a typical ultra-rapid EV charging hub in the Midlands, for example, have jumped from £99 a year in 2022 to £8600 a year in 2024. That’s 87x higher, and just one hub. 📈 Over the last two years, Standing Charges paid every day for the live grid connection have increased by as much as 1000% (10x the previous level). 📈 Capacity Charges, reflecting large grid connections secured for future demand, are set to increase by around 100% in April 2025. What surprises people most is that on average 46% of the electricity cost they're paying is for these fixed charges. And at many charging hubs, it is more than the cost of raw electricity itself. Read our full explainer blog here: https://lnkd.in/efYmq6Bv To ensure continued growth in EV infrastructure, and particularly the high-power hubs that customers love and are being built ahead of demand, CPOs are working through ChargeUK to achieve temporary relief or restructuring of how these grid system costs are covered. It's also worth remembering that the cost of charging on the public networks is also higher than at home due to: 👉 No cap on price businesses pay for electricity 👉 VAT is 20% vs 5% at home 👉 CAPEX of building and maintaining infrastructure Vicky Read Jarrod Birch Ian Johnston Dora Clarke Harry Bleasdale Chris Collins Lewis Gardiner

  • The cost-of-public-charging exam question: wholesale electricity prices have come down from their '22 peak, why haven't prices on the public charging network? Osprey's CEO Ian Johnston explains recent dynamics underlying the cost of public charging in less than five minutes, and shocks podcast host Imogen Bhogal with the changes to standing & capacity charges.
