Last week our CEO Jenny Ousbey attended the Cambridge Rare Disease Showcase - a brilliant annual gathering organised by Beacon for Rare Diseases of advocates, scientists, life sciences companies and more - all with a passion for supporting rare diseases. As an agency we work a lot in the rare space, so it's a privilege to attend events like this and chat to super interesting and inspiring people! One of the most memorable parts of the evening was talking to some of the parents who have created charities in search of a cure for their children with a rare disease. It was also great to hear from speakers like Bruce Bloom at Healx who spoke about why biotechs and life sciences companies need to hear the lived experience of patients to shape and drive their pipeline and mission. #rareshowcase24 #raredisease #healthchangemakers #healthcomms

As always, it was a pleasure to take part in the PharmaTimes Communications Team of the Year competition. In just two hours, our team of #HealthChangeMakers, consisting of Jenny Ousbey, Emma Chapman, William Brennan and Zoë Sleath: 🔎 Reviewed a challenging NHS brief 💡 Developed a creative and strategic response 📣 Pitched their plan to a panel of expert judges They say diamonds are made under pressure, and our team of #PublicAffairs, #PatientAdvocacy and #HealthcareCommunications pros had great fun working together to rise to the challenge. Fingers crossed for the Awards Ceremony in November! 🤞

Over the last two weeks, we welcomed Kevin Duncan and Rosie Duncan, of Expert Advice / Sleeping Lion for two further insightful training sessions - this time on strategic thinking and stress management. Once again, we rounded off the session by applying the techniques to an existing challenge. Our thanks to Kevin and Rosie for delivering a series of thought-provoking and inspiring sessions. #HealthChangeMakers #Strategy #HealthComms #StressManagement

Yesterday evening the OVID Health team hosted a cell and gene networking drinks reception with clients and friends from across the cell and gene sector. We were delighted to be joined by Rachel Sylvester, Political Columnist at The Times, who shared her insights on the future of cell and gene therapies from her perspective as Chair of the Times Heath Commission.      As an agency that champions partnerships to improve health outcomes, it was fantastic to bring together clients, friends and colleagues for an evening of great conversation and connection building to discuss what lies ahead for the cell and gene sector.   Thank you to everyone who joined us! ✨ #cellandgene #atmp #healthchangemakers

We’re excited to launch our new groundbreaking global insights report 'From Patient Centricity to Patient Leadership', which explores what truly authentic pharmaceutical engagement with the public and patients should look like on social media channels.   If you would like to know how your company fared, you can download the report for a small fee to gain early access to a wealth of data, including European comparable data and best practice examples from this year’s Patient Partnership Index (PPI). Click here to access the report 👇 https://lnkd.in/ej9maymF   From the very inception of OVID Health in 2018, patients have been at the heart of all we do. The golden thread of using communications and advocacy to deliver change that benefits patients has been our ‘raison d’etre’. As a broader industry, there is a sense of needing to know where to aim next or where this journey is taking us.   This was why, five years ago OVID set up the PPI to showcase the best examples of meaningful collaboration between pharma and patient groups. And it is why we have new undertaken this new research to explore how pharma companies communicate with patients and the broader public. As with the PPI, we want to highlight what works and what opportunities there are to drive deeper, more impactful conversations between patients and the public on one hand, and pharma and life science companies on the other.   This report offers insights that will spark discussions as to how our sector can reach patients, allowing us to translate the rhetoric of patient centricity into reality.   Get in touch if you and your social media teams would like a workshop on how you can implement the report’s recommendations in your market and/or organisation by emailing hello@ovidhealth.com. #HealthChangeMakers #HealthcareCommunications #PatientEngagement #PatientCentricity #PatientLeadership

Unable to attend the #LabourPartyConference 🌹? We've got you covered. OVID's Head of Public Affairs David Talbot spent the past three days in Liverpool, battling the rain and the cold alongside clients, friends and other delegates. See below for David's reflections on the event 👇

My thoughts and reflections from 3 days at Labour Party conference 🌹 ☔️ Delegates battled trench foot in almost Biblical rain for 2 straight days. The adverse weather almost certainly seemed to impact the mood and vibe of conference, as there was little of the reverie seen that might have been expected in the first conference in 14-years with Labour in government. The Prime Minister and Chancellor had dampened the mood and expectations in the preceding weeks with dire warnings on the state of the UK economy and public services, with Starmer talking of a “10 year plan on national renewal” in his keynote speech. 🩺 There was a vibrant and packed #health and life sciences agenda, with Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP, Peter Kyle and Chi Onwurah front and centre throughout espousing the important of life sciences not only to the health but wealth of the nation. Important announcements, such as a public consultation on Labour’s 10-year plan for the NHS, a national Men’s Health Strategy, reform of the Mental Health Act and a hint of more health funding in the October Spending Review, are welcome as they are important. Streeting stuck to his pre-election diagnosis that the #NHS must “reform or die” and switch from “curative to preventative, analogue to digital and hospital to community”. Interestingly, Streeting noted - in a side comment at the Fabian Society’s fringe - that he had realised very quickly just how few levers he has as Secretary of State to enact change (in the context of the recent CQC debacle). I wonder if a centralisation of power, as his recent strategy of hugging NHS England closely, will be forthcoming. 🧪 The fringe circuit was alive with innovative companies and charities, large and small, advancing the frontiers of medicines and science. The one golden thread of consensus, though, is that the UK must become a more attractive market for significant inward investment. From clinical trials, AI, cell and gene therapies to market access and uptake, there is broad agreement that the UK is falling down international league tables, and Board rooms’ minds, which is to the detriment of the NHS and the patients it serves. 🍴 It was a pleasure to welcome 10 clients and friends of OVID Health to a private dinner on Monday night of conference. From the excitement of a first time delegate, to the misty-eyed nostalgia of those that remembered the carnival-like 1997 conference, it is inspiring to work with and for companies across the health and life sciences sector, focusing on different disease areas, therapies and disciplines, all of whom are dedicated to working collaboratively with #Labour, the NHS and for ever better treatments for their patients. Please do drop me a line if you would like to know more about our work at OVID Health and how we can support you at conference 2025! E: david.talbot@ovidhealth.com

    Are you a #policy or #advocacy professional working in #cancer? Don't miss Jenny Ousbey's key takeaways from #ESMO24 below👇 https://lnkd.in/eSahp8fP

As OVID Health’s time at #ESMO24 comes to an end, I wanted to share some of my key takeaways for international policy/advocacy professionals. 1. Clinicians need to access ‘all the tools in the treatment box’ and currently there is so much patchiness in terms of reimbursement across Europe (from 31% to 100% per nation in terms of reimbursement share). 2. New country profiles from the OECD on cancer inequalities will be published in February 2025 - my view is that they could make potential hooks for in-market policy programmes. 3. We need to collectively do more to recognise that patients are the real experts in their disease and we need to take their views into account to improve outcomes. 4. In many areas of oncology, clinicians are finding that patients are only receiving the 1st line of therapy - when other options are available but for multiple reasons, aren’t accessed or prescribed. 5. There are examples of breakthrough products which gained approval 25 years ago where still only 20-40% of eligible patients have access to them globally - demonstrating the need for joined-up thinking between national HTA bodies and policymakers. Overall, my ‘highlight’ was the people I met and connections made (old and new) - there is nothing that beats a face-to-face meeting! Do share your #ESMO moments below in the comments too.
