🚨🔌 Renewable Energy in the News ☀️🔋 🟢 OXBO's Green Team have been having conversations over the past year or so with leaders within the Solar, BESS & Onshore Wind development space and the issue that keeps recurring is that around grid connection dates. 🧟♂️ The main issue being "zombie projects" (projects that have little to no chance of ever being built, despite having a space in the queue) clogging up the queue to get connected to the grid. The new National Energy System Operator (NESO) is now tasked with prioritising projects that are "needed" in order to decarbonise by 2030, and leapfrog them in the queue.

🇬🇧 ⚡ Locations for new UK energy infrastructure will be set out in a strategic plan to speed up the transition away from fossil fuels and enable the UK's clean energy superpower mission. Energy ministers in the Scottish, Welsh, and UK Governments have asked the newly formed National Energy System Operator (NESO) to produce the first ever strategic spatial plan for energy out to 2050, across land and sea in the UK. Planning of energy infrastructure in this way will help cut grid connection waiting times, giving investors confidence on where to build and when. NESO will develop several options for how the energy system could look in the future which will be presented to ministers. The first iteration of the plan will be published in 2026 and will focus on electricity generation and storage, including hydrogen assets, from offshore wind farms to pumped storage hydro. #neso #ukrenewableenergy #ukenergystorage #ukgovernment #oxborecruitment https://lnkd.in/enHgjfS3

Burning Waste: A Dirty Energy Source? 🗑️🔥 New research reveals that the UK's reliance on waste incineration for energy is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. As the country strives to achieve its net-zero goals, experts warn that this practice is counterproductive. With the closure of the last coal plant, waste incineration has become the dirtiest way the UK generates power. Some argue that it's a necessary evil, but the environmental cost may be too significant... After the success of reducing the UK’s reliance on coal, should reducing waste incineration practices be higher on the UK’s net zero plans? #climatechange #sustainability #wastemanagement #energy #UK

Innovative Training: Shell UK has recently opened a new training hub in Pembrokeshire, SW Wales, in order to further progress the energy transition. 🔋 The UK needs to ensure it has the workforce needed to achieve ambitious net zero targets. Hence, Shell UK has started upskilling and empowering a new generation of energy experts, with a SkillsTransition Programme aiming to help 15,000 people enter the industry by 2035. 📈 Within the training hubs, virtual reality is enabling students to experience energy projects from the comfort of a classroom. 🤖 It is predicted that by 2030, there could be nearly 700,000 direct jobs employed in the renewables industry, presenting the demand for further green skills training. 📗 https://lnkd.in/emkj6gmu

🚫 Coal Closure 🚫 The UK becomes the first G7 nation to eradicate coal power generation. 🔥 For Great Britain, this marks the end of an era, as coal has been used to generate electricity for the past 142 years. 🔋 The closure of Ratcliffe-on-Soar shows the nation's clear intentions to decarbonise the National Grid. 💡 Hopefully, this has set a precedent on the global scale. 🌍
This is the moment Ratcliffe power station came off the electricity system for the final time, marking the end of 142 years of coal generating electricity in Great Britain!
