20% of neurodivergent employees face either discrimination or harassment at work, according to a recent CIPD report. The Neuroinclusion at work report was based on surveys of over 2000 employees and managers. Some of the stats that came out of this were: 19% of respondents said that a negative experience at work in relation to their neurodiversity had made them less likely to stay in their job 31% of organisations failed to formally talk about neurodiversity 39% said that their organisation hasn’t taken any action specific to line managers to create a neuroinclusive organisation only 10% of organisations acknowledge neurodiversity in their policies For our full rundown on the report, see our blog here: https://lnkd.in/e5jQ35-W #neurodivergent #inclusion #humanresources #consulting #values

Company Directors imprisoned for safety failings. A small business is not exempt. Ignorance is not a defence. The Health and Safety Executive has stated its aims to increase the number of successful prosecutions against individuals, according to an article I read in the latest edition of IOSH Magazine. This demonstrates the importance of business owners and managers to ensure they are not putting employees, workers or contractors at risk, as well as understanding where liability lies. In 2022, a Director was sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for manslaughter after 2 employees were sent in to clean a tanker and suffocated. The Managing Director and Transport Manager were also convicted, and the company fined 2 million! A business needs to have: - Risk assessments considering the risk to anyone affected for work related activities - Safe systems of work to ensure the risk is maintained to as far as reasonably practicable - Understanding of their legal responsibilities, and accountability you hold - An understanding of the risks posed, the significance of those risks, who might be harmed, how and what can be done to prevent it - Access to qualified and competent professionals who can advise and support you to protect your business I specialise in small business support. 4.58 million in damages to dismissed council director left with PTSD after Grenfell. I read this article in IOSH magazine and was just astonished 🤦♀️ The claimant suffered PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) bought about by her HELPING people affected by the Grenfell tower fire 🔥. She was then dismissed for sickness absence by the council. What a phenomenal failure by the council. That's where our taxes are going. The same phenomenal failures throughout the NHS, where only this week I also saw that a third of the NHS maternity budget was spent on paying negligence claims. What is framing and why does it affect decision making? Your mind forms opinions and decisions based upon how information is presented to you. Depending on your particular problem, desire, outlook or expectation the way a solution or product is worded, and presented can impact whether you say yes or no. If you are in finance for example - you want to see numbers, preferably positive ones. If someone comes to you and says "I need more staff, I can't do all the work" - you want to know what it will cost and what the return will be on that expense. If you are shopping for wedding shoes, for example, and you see an ad that specifies "great wedding shoes sold here" you are highly likely to click it. If you are time constrained, as many of us are, and you need a solution that saves you time, you want to know how much time and what it's going to cost. Something worded that states "time saving and cost effective" is a start. But something that says "Save 20 hours a week for £20 a month" is likely to really hit the mark! So let's put that spin on our businesses. When you want to sell to someone, even if that's a team member - you need to find their motivation. It's beyond pay (in most cases). Career progression, good line management, balanced workload. Meet these objectives for your team, and they drive your business forward. If £20 a month saves you 20 hours, can it also save 20 hours for each of your team too? What impact does that have? I love to explore beyond HR and find solutions to business challenges that really unlock efficiency, with a people first focus.
