We're feeling very lucky to be delivering the PR launch for Malibu's new responsible drinking campaign, “Don’t Drink and Dive”. Yesterday morning we headed to Brighton’s iconic pebble beach, with none other than five-time Olympic medallist and sporting hero Tom Daley, in his first act since announcing his retirement to the world earlier this week. Tom joined forces with Malibu and the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK in a bid to raise awareness of the 1 in 4 alcohol-related drownings that occur in the UK. The launch has come amidst surprising new research which revealed the nation’s somewhat relaxed attitudes towards alcohol consumption near water with almost two thirds of all Brits (62%) confessing to having entered the water or been swimming after drinking alcohol, whilst younger people were revealed as being especially relaxed about the topic – with 78% of Gen Zs saying it’s ok to go swimming after you’ve had one or more alcoholic drinks. Despite the above, the vast majority of all Brits (80%) were completely unaware that 1 in 4 drownings that occur in Britain are alcohol-related. At the heart of this initiative has been a knitted swim wear line – created by Tom and his clothing brand Made with Love, emblazoned with the catchy, responsible-drinking slogan “Don’t Drink and Dive” - conceived by our brilliant friends at Wieden+Kennedy London. All proceeds from every item sold will go to the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK, providing vital support so that they can continue their important work on water safety education and drowning prevention.
