This piece highlights the critical need for innovative treatments in burn wound management. Despite advances, infection remains a primary cause of morbidity and is responsible for 51% of burn-related deaths. Our experts have provided a comprehensive comparison of models and methods used in developing new antimicrobial treatments. We emphasize the importance of meticulous attention to materials, sterilization, quality control, regulatory compliance, and product design in manufacturing burn wound care products. Animal tissue and their derivatives are commonly used in the design and manufacture of #medicaldevices, to provide performance characteristics, stabilize formulations and enhance properties. The materials could envelope the device itself, interact with a device coating or be utilised in the overall manufacturing process. #Regulatory bodies require manufacturers to ensure adequate inactivation and removal of viruses, via assessment of the processing methods and sterilization techniques used in product manufacture.
