We kicked off 2025 with an inspiring Girls in STEM Event, hosted in collaboration with the University of Birmingham's School of Physics & Astronomy. We were delighted to welcome 145 students from 11 schools to explore the exciting possibilities of STEM careers. Dr. Annelies Mortier, Associate Professor in Astronomy, shared her fascinating research on exoplanets, followed by a lively Q&A panel session, where students gained valuable insights into the diverse career opportunities that studying Physics can lead to. A special thank you to our brilliant panelists: - Dr Mortier - Saffron P. and Beth Fraser (from Arup), - Amy Bishton (UK & European Patent Attorney, Barker Brettell LLP, - Katie Wilkinson (PhD student, The Quantum Technology Hub, Birmingham) After lunch, students were captivated by a high-energy Particle Physics show delivered by Sam Gregson—complete with water guns and even an explosion! A huge thank you to our speakers, panelists, and volunteers who made this event possible, especially Daniel Cottle and Emma Willett. We’re also grateful to The Ironmongers' Company for funding this event and our other work across Birmingham. #GirlsInSTEM #WomenInSTEM #STEMCareers #FutureScientists

Fantastic to see these photos from Charlotte's trip to CERN, her prize for winning the 'What Lights Up Your Love of Physics?' competition. Thanks for sharing your experience Charlotte Hatton
A-level student studying Physics, Further Maths, Maths, Chemistry and hoping to study Mechanical Engineering.
Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to visit CERN having won first prize in the PHYSICS PARTNERS - charity and University of Oxford, Department of Physics competition. We visited the detector control rooms, gaining insight into the daily routines of the PhD students searching for signs of dark matter. We also learnt about the workings of the LHC, such as it’s superconducting magnets and even visited the antimatter factory. Of course we also managed to squeeze in a swim at Lake Geneva. Vlog of the trip for Physics Partners coming soon!
