PinkGold Ltd cares about knowledge. We care about people having access to knowledge. We welcome the role of ai in making information more accessible. We were intrigued by its possibilities in the online workshop about AI in relation to qualitative data analysis (many thanks, Christina Silver, PhD for the workshop and Helen Kara for the fabulous International Creative Research Methods conference). But.. ai needs to be approached with caution. It's not without reason that Hannah Retallick joked about the robot overlords - hence the title of Anne Collis's new short blog series. In the blog, she shares the paragraph written by four different (free) versions of ai. All had used the same prompts. The image (with alt text) contains the prompts that Anne gave the four versions of ai. You can read the blog here: https://lnkd.in/ey4bTw9W The TLDR (Too Long, Didn't Read): * Given the same prompts, the different robot overlords will deliver overlapping wordings – but with very different messages at their heart. * Three out of four assume the community is within the university. * Only one recognises the role of universities in relation to the community beyond its walls. Enjoy playing with ai - but remember, the robot overlords may not have our best interests at heart...

Today PinkGold and Mazin Mosaics celebrate the launch of the Handbook of Creative Data Analysis https://lnkd.in/e2JvMy7x Together, Mel and Anne co-created a sensory assemblage as a way of Mel coaching and coaxing Anne into making sense of her doctoral data when she couldn't find words to deal with data analysis in the usual way (ie using words). This led to a co-authored chapter in the handbook that is being launched today. We are pleased to say that Mel is available for future academic collaborations. So if you are looking for a socially engaged, community orientated and academically savvy artist to explore and unlock meanings through creative practices - Mel is your person. [We are still working to get Mel onto LinkedIn, but she can be contacted through Mazin Mosaics on Facebook https://lnkd.in/evPgZ_wp, or you are welcome to message Anne Collis]

Today's task is packing up a 'sensory selfcare space' box of goodies for shipping to Helen Kara for the 2024 International Creative Research Methods Festival in Manchester. Anyone who goes to conferences knows that they can become overwhelming, especially if you are neurodivergent. Last year, a room was set aside as a quiet room. Anne was there in person and took a few personal sensory selfcare items for sharing. This year, PinkGold are sponsoring a sensory selfcare box to turn the room into a sensory selfcare space. Goodies include a blackout tent and mat, colouring books/materials, fidgets (lots of fidgets) and some things to give an 'ahhhhh, bliss' moment for the senses of hearing, seeing and proprioception (that's the sense that tells you where your body ends and the rest of the universe begins). If you are going, let us know what worked for you. If you are organising events, we highly recommend a conversation with Alex Kegie or Helen Moon whose businesses provide a full wellbeing events service including sensory selfcare and mental health first aid. The pack that PinkGold has sponsored only dips its toes into the ocean of wellbeing at conferences. [the image is a very grainy image of the cushion you'll find in the blackout tent.]

What happens when a neurodivergent doctoral student 'knows' so much but cannot articulate it? You get her to work with a mosaic artist to see if the act of creating-beyond-words can unlock the words as she seeks to analyse and synthesise all her empirical and conceptual data. Did it work? Find out on 11th September (or 9th if you have booked into the International Creative Research Methods conference)! https://lnkd.in/e2JvMy7x

How wonderful - a surprise from Scott Frasard Âû, PhD in the post today. I cannot wait to read and review his book. That’s if I can wrestle it back from my husband…

Inclusion matters for all stages and types of academic research, not just public engagement or working with research participants. This blog describes some of the reality of finding ways to work inclusively on a complex multi-partner, multi-disciplinary research project [spoiler: We find it helps to reframe working together in complex teams as working cross-culturally.]
The what and why of inclusion Beth ydy cynhwysiant a pham y mae’n bwysig If you want an easy life, don’t build a research team as complex and diverse as the Public Map Platform team. Fortunately, the team is more concerned about the quality and value of the research than giving themselves an easy ride. This blog by Anne Collis looks at the importance and power of working inclusively within a team that is working in two languages, across cultures, with multiple organisations, a diversity of academic disciplines, each with its own technical language and a range of access needs and different communication styles. We haven't heard of a social research degree apprenticeship before. BUT if you need a salary and fees paid in order to do a social research degree, please check this out https://lnkd.in/d4PTSJts It could be a lifeline to someone from a background where they would never consider uni but have the skills and desire to develop research skills for social justice. Anne and Mel Roberts, Mazin Mosaics, have a jointly authored chapter in The Handbook of Creative Data Analysis. It tells the story of the co-creation of a sensory assemblage as a way to engage beyond words with complex data in order to be able to find the words to understand and write about the data. Anne's just looked at the list of other chapters and authors. This is a must-have collection for anyone serious about creative approaches to data analysis. We are honoured to be part of it. The price means it is more of a library book than an individual purchase. So now may be a good time to ask your local librarian to consider preordering a copy. https://lnkd.in/e2JvMy7x

Anne put her thoughts in the comments in Danny Sherwood‘s post. Much food for thought about the meaning of co-production in a public service context. Lynn Laidlaw - we’d be interested in your take on the increase in power (towards equal) rather than equal power.
Getting into the weeds of definitions of co-production can get in the way of just speaking to people and developing our involvement practice by doing it. This article is a way to pick up what's most useful from the definitions discussions, and carry it through to doing co-production (or whatever you choose public services working with the people they serve).
What is co production?
